They don't really serve the same purpose. Twitter is good for getting out news, whereas FB only really works well if you engage your audience.

On the other hand some people only use FB cos they can't abide by Twitter, and vice versa.

I'd still someone to do a write up for us wrinklies!!

A very quick guide to working facebook:
First, here's a look at the NHC facebook page.

WHERE IS FACEBOOK?

DO I NEED AN ACCOUNT?
Nope, but without one you will not be able to post comments.

HOW DO I MAKE AN ACCOUNT
On the facebook main page, fill in your name, email address and password, then hit 'sign up'

OK, I'M IN! WHAT NEXT?
In the blue bar ont eh top of the screen you'll see your name, 'friend requests', 'messages', 'notifications', a search bar, 'find friends', 'home', privacy shortcuts' and 'settings'
Friend requests: People who requested to be your friend, and people facebook thinks might be of interest to you
Messages: Private PMs
Notifications: lets you know if people commented on your posts or pictures, or if they invited you to something.
Search bar: To look for someone or groups.
Your name: Shows all the stuff you've posted to your facebook.
Find friends: Search area to find people you know. Later on it will suggest people you might know based on the information you supplied or the friends of your friends.
Home: This shows all of your friends' and organisations' posts
Privacy Shortcuts and settings: You can select who can read your page, see your pictures, etc.

HOW DO I MAKE A POST?
In the blue bar, click your name. On the top of your timeline you can select status, photo, place, life-event. Then type what you want and hit 'post'.
Everyone that you've allowed to see your posts will be able to view it.

I'VE NO FRIENDS 
In the search bar, type your friend's name.
It will give you a list of people with that name and their photo if they've uploaded one.
Click on the one you want, then hit 'Add Friend' or 'message'.
Add friend will send him a request that he can accept or reject.
Message will send him a PM.
Once you have friends added, you can see their posts and they can see yours.

I WANT TO GET GROUP NOTIFICATIONS
Again in the search bar, type in what you're looking for and select the one you want.
Here's an example, The Franciscan Well.
You won't be able to add them as a friend, but you can hit the 'Like' button to see updates.
For clubs, you will be able to request to join the club to interact.

I WANT TO ADD A PROFILE PICTURE SO PEOPLE KNOW ME
Beneath the blue bar, you may have a silhouette instead of a pic of you.
Click it and it willask you for your picture.
You can upload the picture directly.
Once added, everyone will be able to see that picture next to your name when searching, or when reading your posts.

WHAT SHOULD I DO ON FACEBOOK?
Post pictures of cats. Tell the world about the poo you just took. Moan about hangovers. Stalk people.
I think that covers it.

What if I am averse to Facebook and deleted my account because I don't want Mark Zuckerberg making money off me and my friends?

Then put your Tinfoil Hat back on, hide in a corner and Tweet about cats, poo and hangovers.
Then to avoid any more advertising: burn your radio, donate your TV to charity and close your eyes while driving to avoid billboards.

Well, I have a Twitter account (must figure it out some day)
I did delete my Facebook account but added myself again, but I just don't have the patience for the environment or the everchanging interface.

I'm like that with iPhones (and all things crApple) too.

It's been deleted or closed. It can only be found in the Google cache. I'm not sure if that's a cache on my computer or on Google's end.
And yes John, I agree with you that Apple can go suck a [insert something vulgar here]
