Campervan rental

Hi, I'm considering rentin a campervan for a weekend late in August. For myself, swmbo and 2 young kids, aged 4 and 6. I rang a place in navan today and its 144 for a suitable camper including insurance per day. He said its about 20 quid a night in campsites and they've a minimum of 4 days rental( I may only want 3). That puts it at over €600 before I even put juice in it. I don't want a crappy camper as some level of comfort is important. Anyone got any advice or recommendations on this? I'd be looking for something in the Meath, Kildare or north/west Dublin area. Any of you guys ever do this?

Thanks

Richard

Them yokes is expensive to rent alright.
If you're planning on going a distance in one, they can cost the same as 2 cars to move about.

May be a PM to Saruman ( Reuben ) may be an enlightning experience?

Just in the door from Dingle - was camping there last night - great campsite for Camper-vans - electric hook up and place to empty your jacks.

Nice playground for 4 & 6 year old. It was 30squid for us for the night in a tent.

Thanks guys, it's just something I've been intending to try out for years now. @Will, I'll pm Reuben an see what he says

I've no experience renting a camper in Ireland, though I did in Australia. It's not cheap.
Some private parties offer their camper for rental when not using it. I've no idea how they work insurance which is specified named drivers only usually. I know mine is only drivable by me and a named family member.

At €600 for 4 days you could easily justify buying a cheap one for a few grand. You can always sell it on after a few months and possibly get most, if not all of your money back. You would have to insure it for a year but it's only €325 or so per year. Set price!

If you are set on renting, and no one here knows, perhaps try the boards.ie camper van forum.
