Is it even possible to do a black IPA from just cans of extract and hops, no steeping grains involved? How would it be done? ;D

If you can do an extract IPA, perhaps you could use caramel colouring to dye it black?

You can get liquid carafa extract called sinamar or something like that. I actually have some at the moment, but haven't used it yet. need to understand now much to be used, and if I can spare some, you can try it.

Have you looked at any schwarzbier recipes. They often use sinamar as well.

Black IPAs are supposed to have some dark malt character though.

I'd say you could try an IPA kit with dark DME.

If you boiled the DME for a while it would probably darken it too? You'll be boiling it anyway if you are planning on adding hops.

Yes i actually have a black IPA extract receipe i got of an Aussie lad that has like 6 hop addditions etc and steeping grains but i wanted to see if it was possible to do one without the grains at all just as a back up. For now it may be easier to go the steeping grain route just to get one down. Cheers.

i'd day just steep the grains, it'll only take you a half hour :)
