Has anybody experience of posting a couple of bottles of homebrew or craft beer outside the state? Is there a limit above which it is liable for duty or just confiscated? Or are there any issues with non-pasteurised beer? Is there any preferred method (courier, airmail,etc)?

Because of the legal issues surrounding this i would suggest treading carefully as to what is posted as reply IMHO. There have been changes this year as to what An Post will allow you to ship withing the 32 counties or outside them.

It was explained to me like this; no bottles containing liquid of ANY description whatsoever under any circumstances, not even so much as a bottle of holy water

Basically if i went into Spar and bought a bottle of still water in the 2lt plastic bottle i am NOT allowed to post that ANYWHERE through An Post. Its that simple, this is coming directly from An Post themselves. The caps are used to emphasise how bold a boy An Post will regard you for even entertaining such a scurrilous idea

Also, I know you can carry a certain amount through customs from eu for personal use. But think it's different if you don't travel with it.

Never send liquids outside of the Republic of Ireland using any of our services. We cannot accept liquids due to IATA regulations. Other restrictions for both national and international services include explosives, corrosives and irritants.

Doesn't mention restrictions on posting within Ireland.

TBH the impression i got was that An Post have gone nuclear on their interpretation of whatever the rules are.

I know of 'someone' who received 24 75cl bottles of a red liquid by courier yesterday that originated in France and there were no such restrictions and were clearly labeled. Sounds like the Semi SemiState don't want the hassle!!

Interesting. And was clearly labelled! Would have thought customs  boys would have been all over that.

I think this is a follow up on the liquid bomb plot.

Reality is though that we can order Nitric and Sulphuric acids from UK per courier....it's stupid.

Contact yer man in Drinkstore and find out what courier he uses. They'd probably do it for you.

He couriers it out, and I think it's fastways, but it appears that commercial accounts have different allowances to normal accounts, because couriers also state that they won't carry liquids of any description. Definitely worth finding out if it's a commercial vs private rule and is different depending on who you are, I suspect that's the case.
