WLP001 or US05 wanted

Hi,

Anyone got any White Labs WLP001 or Safale US05 that they would be willing to sell/swap for a couple of bottles? It's for an american style brown ale that I'm brewing on Saturday.

I have a couple of packs of US05 but they have not been stored in a fridge so would have been exposed to the high temperatures during the summer. Fermentis recommend that it is stored below 10 C so I reckon its bet.

You still have some time to make a starter to check your yeast.

Do I need DME to make the starter?

You can use DME or if you have some grain you could mash a small amount in a pot and use the wort from that.

There are few vids on YouTube showing how to make an 'all grain starter' if you don't have any DME.

Maybe pitch 2 packets to be on the safe side as well.

You can also just get a small jar of malt extract from health food shops. A few tablespoons in warm water to 1.040, add a hint of Marmite (if you don't have a coomercial yeast nutient) and away you go.

You can also revive yeast with a 1.040 sugar solution or better than white sugar is glucose!

After all you are just trying to revive the yeasties and all they need is some fermantable mono-saccarides!
