All,
Just took out hops after dry hopping... The beer tasted superb after 6 days in 1st FV, smelled excellent after 2-3 days dry hopping in 2nd FV, but now having taken dry hops out after 5 days it seems to taste a bit appley?

Brew is an extract with white wheat and crystal steeped and cascade/willamette hops. US 05 yeast.

I read the following which says the beer needs to remain on yeast in 1st for c2 weeks so that yeast scan clean up the acetaldehyde which is an intermediate product from the yeast: http://canyoubrewit.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=19026#_thread

I plan to leave in 2nd FV for a week or two longer so what ever yeast is remaining can clean up the beer - hopefully time will heal. The flavour isn't necessarily bad, after all it's apple, but it has started to bug me.

I must admit I have tasted this same flavour in tastings at one or two brewing meets. I'd be interested to know if anyone has any experience with this and what remedies worked.

Thanks

Hi Gar , is it grassy/vegetable or appley, green apples if thats what you think it is indicates its too young, the following is a handy reference.

Hmmm... It's kinda somewhere in between. It's like a very watered down red apple juice (not sour).

How long should hops be left in? Smelled great after 2-3 days but now aroma has subsided.

Link is useful - thanks. Hopefully it's just too young. I'll leave for a week and re sample. Should I consider adding more yeast to tidy up?

Ciderhead

nope just leave it and let us know in a week
Historically it was recommended Max 7-10 Days for DH'ing but lots of info and podcasts I listened to recently suggest most flavour comes out in 3-5 days.
I have to admit I haven't dry hopped for ages but do late additions and add at flameout.

In second fermenter for two weeks and apple flavour mostly gone. I was still however missing that nice cascade aroma so I dry hopped again for a day to try and trap some aroma when I bottled. Beer tasted good and all bottled now so looking fwd to sampling in a couple of weeks.
