Ah Ok! In my day its was called structured programming!

You made nice piles of punched cards all held together with strong elastic bands. You stacked up like those kiddy wooden block games.

You made sure the low level subroutines were, well, on the lowest level i.e the desk.

Next came the more functional blocks of cards often two or thress layers, and then just like the mighty pyramid of Cheops in Egyt, the top most (small) pack of cards was called the "user interface"

You young pups think you invented everything!

Next lesson from the past will be:

"How to make and use 3-d flow charts"

I kid you not! there were research articles wriiten about flowcharting in 3D!
