We all know the story with getting stc-1000's off fleabay from China, its just a matter of waiting for them to arrive. However when ordering goods greater than 22.00 euro intrinsic value you are charged all VAT+ Customs Duties. If i order an item off ebay that is coming from China that is lets say 100.00 euro how do i calculate the total duties i need to add to work out the final cost to my door ? I have looked at the customs site but it is not the clearest to me tbh. Is there any simple formula for working this stuff out ?

Most shops on ebay will calculate this for you but the Chinese ones do not it seems. ;D

If using normal shipping from china it will comein via An post.

The charges and process is simple.

An post will send u a letter telling u they have nabbed ur package and they want their money. They instruct you to email a copy of your paypal or credit card payment you made. thats how they know the real price including shipping which u pay the tax on.

Right
step one:  An post tell u they want their money and you prove how much it cost
Step two:  They look at your proof of payment and send you the bill.
Step 3: You accept the bill and pay the postman.

Cost is the normal VAT rate in Ireland for the goods you purchased. If you paid 100 euros you owe the customs 23 euros tax.

The post office then  happily charge you a fee of about 7 euros admin fee  for this wonderful service!

Some goods have special rates of excise taxes which is usually things like tobacco, perfumes or special other special items, there is a list posted on An Posts's customs pages listing special goods.
For us as homebrewers buying gadgets and so on everything should fall into the normal system I outlines above. There is just applicable VAT and the post office charge to worry about.

thats it

Do you not get charged Customs Duty as well for goods from China ? ???

its all above :)
Revenue / Customs charge you only VAT on nearly everything that comes in to Ireland.

Customs seems to = Excise duty, thats on special goods as I said tobacco, diesel and other "special exciseable goods"

there are very clear pages on An Posts's web, get in there and have a look its not real that complicated as people think for normal goods from outside EU. I think there are some rare few countries that there are no agreements with maybe Saudi arabia or something like that.
Ive had hundreds of chinese deliveries nbever has any trouble with the system.

Brendan or anybody here, have you ever collected goods from Dublin port or any other port in Ireland being sent to you from China?
I'm about to order some equipment from China and they only operate on 'shipping to port of your choice' system.
I've no idea how it technically works, so my questions are:
1 How do I know stuff has arrived to the port?
2 How do I pay vat/duty?

PS Not drug related  :)

you have to have a shipping agent either based in china or dublin.

there are significant fees including:

unloading fees,
import taxes
VAT
admin fees
port fees and so on. the shipping agent handles these.

I presuming its a large item that cant be sent with DHL?

alealex

They're not going to ask for the firstborn are they  ???
Price includes delivery to Ningbo port, the shipping cost from Ningbo to Dublin Port is $60, Nadia Jiang said so. Must get back to her with unloading fees, port fees, shipping agent etc
Thats what I'm after (full pic would be considered porn)

Q:
..does $60 shipping cost from Ningbo to Dublin port cover any of the following:
unloading fees in the port,
administration fees
as far as I know the shipping agent handles these fees.
Who is the shipping agent in this case.
Sorry for interrupting you with so many questions, but it's the first time I'm dealing with the supplier from outside the EU and I'm trying to calculate costs and charges. I'm obviously aware of 23% VAT rate in Ireland for the goods purchased outside the EU.
I'd really appreciate your help and advice on the subject of port and shipping fees.

A:
..Please kindly noted that :
1) the CIF means COST,INSURANCE,and FREIGHT(named PORT OF DESTINATION).Furtehrmore,we are responsible for ocean freight and AMS.
2)Buyer Responsibility: 1.You should responsible for all costs and risks after the goods loaded ; 3.Accept the shipping documents provided by the seller , and then pay the purchase price under the contract ; 4. handled at the port of receipt of import procedures.Thank you for your uderstanding.

Partially answered to the question.
