Realistically I stream everything off of the net now.

Playstation network plus subscription
Netflix subscription
Spotify subscription
Then I have a few proxies to change to US netflix and use some other US tv services.

I don't store my files locally anymore, it means too much infrastructure investment in the house.

We use phones, playstation and tablet to access what we need.
I don't bother with streaming internally at all.

Reading this makes me feel as old as Fred Flintstone.

But when do you get time to watch all this stuff?

I manage about 2 hours of TV a day, at most!
Remember: The Nationals are just round the corner - time to get brewing

I listen to spotify whilst cycling to and from work, my wife uses it at home to listen to music during the day whilst looking after the kids.

Netflix is great for keeping the young lad happy with cartoons etc.

Playstation subscription costs 50 a year and means I don't have to buy any new games, because one game can cost 50 euros or more and this way I get downloads every month and can play the games as long as I keep my subscription running.

I stream TV over wifi to raspberry pi and the likes of BBC HD (h264 1080i) typically only needs ~5Mb/s. Any handy wifi should handle it with no issues so I wouldn't go wiring out Cat5E network unless you had other issues like 2m thick walls which aren't typically an issue in most flimsy Irish houses.

What setup ate you using to stream the TV mark? Addons?

tvheadend currently https://tvheadend.org/.

There are a number of PVR clients for xbmc. Previously I used the dreambox client with a sat receiver, and also the mythtv client and that worked quite well too.
