Magnums Pear Cider kit with 1.5kg brown sugar for a bit of extra colour. Apparently a pure pear juice cider kit, my answer to that "Bollox". I should have copped all was not right when i saw it came with a sachet of pear flavouring to be added in secondary or when kegging/bottling. If its proper pear juice there should be no need to add extra "flavouring" IMHO. Drinkable yes but very disappointing, that flavour sachet has given it a completely false chemical pear taste IMHO. And i may be dreaming but i could swear i can taste a heavy dose of apple from this kit  :'(

Edit: Yes i do realise a pear cider is pear+apple juice and that a pure pear juice brew is a "perry", however this is advertised as pure pear juice which IMHO it is not  :(

Mine is just ageing for two weeks now and will bottle mine this weekend if I can find some time..

But I smelled it when i opened the sachet of flavoring it was already having a cheap chemical pear softdrink smell.. I hope this will improve a bit when I leave this for an other few weeks/months..

Will have a go at creating my own pear cider when i have a empty fermenting bottle..
If you can make soup then you will also be able to make a decent beer!

Agreed lampie, this is one i will not be repeating, unless i get it free of course. I will be honest with no malts in it i don't see the flavour improving out of my keg anyway :(

Spot on description of this kit, very disappointing and definitely not a pear cider. :(

Umm... Greg... I'm not sure how to tell you this... But I think there's a baby in your glass ???
Did you ferment a baby?
I'm all for hacking kits, but you gotta slow down a little.
Babies are for life. Not just for adjuncts.
And they're not very sanitary.

By the way? is the fakie sweety pear flavour like Kopperbergs pear? I like that.

Why yes i did ferment a baby 12.5 years ago, still in primary but will be transferring to secondary next September ;D

No the i would say Koppaberg has a fake sweetner taste whereas this has chemical fake pear but very little sweetness taste, nothing like Koppaberg. ;D

When i have an empty 5l fermenting bottle again will try and make one with AJ and PJ.. They sell pasturized pear juice in bottles so will have a try and mixing those together and see where i will end up.

The only problem that i can see right now is that the apple taste will overpower the pear.. But I love to experiment so will have a try soon :)..

It has been in the bottle for 6 weeks now and had an other taste this weekend and it improved quite a bit. the artificial pear taste is less now and its a apple/pear flavor..

I dont think that i will do this kit again, the taste is ok now but the cider from juice is just as easy and has a better taste.. I wonder what will happen if you make a normal juice cider and add pear flavoring.. A friend of mine bought a bottle at the brewshop a few days ago he wil use it to flavor his pear wine. So realy would like to know if this flavoring also has a artifical smell to it.

Found some at amazon.. but it contains 50% pear and the rest would be water i think.. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Granini-Fruit-Juice-Drink-Litre/dp/B0083TTAJW/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1395138894&sr=8-11&keywords=pear

I dont think sainsbury sends all the way down south only to the north.. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Granini-Fruit-Juice-Drink-Litre/dp/B0083TTAJW/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1395138894&sr=8-11&keywords=pear

I did not check how much fruit there is in the dutch juice

Thanks for those links Lampie,  whaat i should have said was that yes pear juice can be got, just not in the republic and if you find it online it is just too expensive with shipping i have found. That 50% juice aabove just means you need to use twice as much  ;D

Plus Parcel Motel do not accept foodstuffs for delivery and there is too much of a risk of those glass bottles breaking.
