I have the same pots, used on Saturday on gas for the lambic brewday. Boiling wort was no problem. Boiling the mash (it was a decoction of sorts) ended up with a lot of grain caramelised on the bottom, which took a wire brush on the drill to remove.
a chef friend of mine gave me a tip that he uses on pots that he has made caramel in. Boil some 7up in the end of the pot. Leave overnight to cool and it just wipes off in the morning. Probably better than a drill and wire brush.

Hey Greg. Not sure if you are familiar with Shipito.com - think US version of parcel motel. Well if you register with them it looks like they have an address in Austria that you could give to Bergland.

Worth checking out anyway.

Cheers Ozbrewer(do i know you from somewhere  :-\) i will look into it, i defo need one of those boil kettles after my first AG brew day today. ;D

Edit: I typed "shititto" into Google on accident and it still came up first on the list  ???

Oh great, Just when i thought I couldn't order stuff from the states (firms that have not heard of europe or the rest of the world) along comes this blooming version of uncle sams parcel motel!

Brilliant, there goes the pension!

PS: Interesting to hear any feedback on this.

Ok so i looked into that USA version of PM and it appears it only works to and from the USA, so if you wanted to order something from Germany and ship it to Ireland no good  :'( Either that i am not looking in the right section ? :D

@Greg - lol. I thought the shitito was funny. Shocked you didn't get some of the more interesting pages... :o.

Anyway, so I logged onto my account to view addresses available. If you want a shipping address in Austria you have to upgrade your account with a virtual mailbox. It appears that is either 50 US dollars a year or 10 a month. Reading the fine print it seems you can "downgrade" the service if you don't want it anymore, no extra charges.

I guess the 8.50 to set it up + 10 US dollars + cost of the pots needs to be cheaper than the homebrew suppliers.

Hope this helps.

@Will. I have had an account for over a year but only using this month. Spent a lot of money with Stainless Brewing last week.... ::). PM if you want and I'll let you know if it went all ok, I'll forget to post here otherwise.

Yeah I see that now, Insulation on the walls and everything, That actually looks like the better deal altogether  ???   :P

Where do geezers get this insulation stuff for the pots?  How would you attach it at all to your own stockpot?

Hop Bomb

Using a 100 litre one of those bergland pots with a blichmann burner. No problems at all. I havent bothered with insulation this time round as the burner is really powerful & the melting insulation would stink up the place on gas. Looks ugly too. Been there done that etc
On tap: Flanders, Gose,
Fermenting: Oatmeal Brown, 200ish Fathoms,
Ageing: bretted 1890 export stout.
To brew:  2015 RIS, Kellerbier, Altbier.

The thermo pots on powellbrewing like what that German lad has all have skirts on the bottom ?  ;D I have my eye on the 38.5lt model with the ball valve, i think its good value at £100 depending on what the shipping is like of course.

I have the 50 liter version as my mashtun; it's really the perfect mashtun. (Didn't come with a tap or ball valve) -I had a 1 1/2" tri clamp welded into the bottom -if you plan on having any welding done the insulation is HIGHLY likely to start on fire so weldless fitting are really a good way to go with these but then you do have the risk that you'll get stuff into the inner insulation layer and never be able to clean it.

The almost 1:1 height to width ratio and insulation makes these things just incredible mashtuns; I used a perforated stainless false bottom and just hold it off of the bottom using 1/2" bolts and nuts and you can recirculation mash through it with almost zero risk of a stuck mash as that 1:1 height to width ratio means that the FB has a high surface area in contact with the grain; a high % open area, staggered hole false bottom makes it even better for recirculated mashing.

-If I ever replace my mashtun, I'm just going to buy a bigger one of these.
