So I've ordered a new fermenter.

Seeing as some of my plastic is about to go sour, I decided to buy new plastic to replace it.

Not a bad price and they can take a tap should I decide to do any spunding later on.
I'll post when it arrives as to quality etc.

What is not a bad price?

I got it on Amazon for £39.99, only issue is the delivery cost using parcel motel, that's not the best as the dimensional weight is quite high.

Whats the science bit behind the tapered base?
It looks a tad unstable.

I'm guessing its a compromise for plastic manufacture between conical bottom with legs to collect waste and flat bottom to stand it up without legs. The tap point is not at bottom which would allow settled yeast to be left behind... or and full diameter top for yeast cropping and cleaning! ... maybe!?

Eoin what was the delivery cost from Parcel Motel on this and how does that work please ? Why did you decide on this one as opposed to a bucket FV ? ;D

Well primarily, I have vouchers from work for Amazon.

The delivery is costing almost as much as the barrel...but refer to said vouchers....I am still paying less than the barrel costs in delivery, but I am thinking almost 35 euros delivery because this is working out at 35KG dimensional weight, even though it is not so heavy.

I decided on this because I want new plastic and the normal buckets don't cut it for me, this is 60l  as my other fermenters are but I need to retire at least one of them. It appears I can also spund in these should I wish, in fact, I may even be able to attach a beer tap and serve direct should I wish, I need to check that.

I've pitched into this for the first time yesterday and am overall much happier with this than with the previous buckets I've been using. I will be buying a few more of them as time goes on.

recommended for big batches.

That said I did have to buy an extra cap for it as they only provided one, to blank off the spigot hole and none for the bubbler hole at the top, I am not using a bubbler and have just put the lid on top and not screwed it down tightly.

Brenmurphs conical are pretty solid for big batches too.

I'd go with conicals if I had an upright freezer, as it stands I have a large chest freezer and don't have the space for a conical in it.

The eventual path may lead to conicals...but as it stands it'll be more of these for me.
