Bergland no longer deliver to Ireland/UK

A lot of people used to source large stainless steal pots from Bergland on ebay (and by email) but in January they stopped delivering outside Germany/Austria. There are some threads on the UK forums about it:

It's a real pity because they had great prices and cheap delivery. It seems the most popular alternatives are:

Powell Brewing

HomeBrewBuilder

I wonder what the story is there? Did someone make him an offer to deal direct with one person in UK or something?

We'll end up paying waaaaay more now. 75 GBP for 100 litre pot. I payed 55 euro. Pr!cks.
On tap: Flanders, Gose,
Fermenting: Oatmeal Brown, 200ish Fathoms,
Ageing: bretted 1890 export stout.
To brew:  2015 RIS, Kellerbier, Altbier.

Once they deal with local suppliers they agree not to encroach on their markets to allow them exclusive access and to justify their mark-ups.

It's the same with a lot of stuff. Try to buy direct from HB UK, you'll be redirected to the local agents here.

Same deal with my screen print machine manufacturer in USA. I used to deal direct with them. Now I have to deal with a new UK dealer who has taken the dollar price, turned it to GBP & added VAT on top so spare parts & add ons are almost 50% more expensive now. I just have a US friend order them now for me & ship them here.

Re: Bergland - If you want to still buy from them Ive a few good mates in Germany. They wouldnt mind sending on a parcel to you from there if you cover the cost of p&p (wouldnt be too much as they get good rates there - they ship lots of records & tees through their courier company so get a good rate)

Sound Tom, might take you up on that offer!

And what about your friend in the States?  ;)

Yeah that can be arranged too. He sent over a blichmann burner & plate chiller recently. I had taytos & tea bags delivered to him in San Francisco from a US company as a thank you haha.

Try the US version of parcel motel - www.shipito.com

You can use their postal address in Austria to get things shipped to Ireland.

I've used it for purchases in the US several times now and works a treat.

DEMPSEY

How does posting it via Austria work out cost wise. :-\

Ozbrewer

@dempsey - not sure. Think it costs about 10us to have the address is Austria + postage from Bergland to Austria + postage to Ireland.

Someone who is interested will work out soon enough if that's cheaper than buying from a UK supplier or one in Ireland if there is one.

Dr Jacoby

I looked at shipito before and once I added all the costs together it seemed quite expensive. Do you reckon it's worth it for US purchases?

I think it's worth it. I was just looking at my account there. Recollection is I paid 10us for the account to set it up. Then the only real cost is the courier you select to ship onto to Ireland, oh and the 1Us dollar for mail out they charge you.

When you look at your account you can select from several shipito locations, including the one in austria.

Where it is good is if there is a supplier that won't ship outside the US. I bought all my stainless fittings in the US, got it posted to shipito address fairly cheaply and then picked the cheapest but fastest courier to ireland. In this case DHL and they stung me for duty.  Had I gone USPS that would have been less likely apparently. Also, Amazon and ebay appear to be adding all the customs costs automatically now so I think you can get it shipped to shipito and forward on from there, in some cases free shipping in the staes if your a Prime customer or something. Some will need to verify the amazon bit, but that's my understanding without any deep research on it.

Seems they ship to Ireland again. Anyone bought from them recently, and know if the shipping is sensible ? Dead curious if folks have added thermometers or sight volume gauges ?
