Got yeast today but they have sent me the wrong one.
I ordered from homebrew company WLP530 Abbey Ale Yeast.
The sent me WLP545 Belgian Strong Ale Yeast.
I have checked their web site and they are now showing they are sold out of WLP500 and WLP530.

Is it alright to brew with the WLP545 or should I get WLP530 from another site.

Thanks Brian.

Jacob

You'll be fine. We probably wont even taste any difference when we'll mix your batch with rest.
Also, you may check with Will if he have any slurry left, or wait few day and I'll give you some.
Probably will transfer mine to secondary around Wednesday.

@Brian: Some extraction that! I also hit about 1.150 in 20 litres at end of kettle draining. Diluted down a bit as above. Fermentation took off like an express train (oxygenated for the first time)

I'll well behind on this. I'll hopefully get to brew early next week.

When are we hopping to empty and refill ? Have me a
Date set yet?

Will_D

First we need to have nearly enough brews ready to fill it.

So as not to inconvienence ColMac too much we should aim to empty and fill in one visit.

So far we are still quite short.

Can discuss more on Tuesday.

BTW: New baby NC Brewers - have you done you first brew on your dad's back yet?

I have my mash on now. Will post volume and gravity later when I'm done.

Has anyone got some 500 they can bring along tonight? My starter is doing nothing. No sign of activity. Pitchable amount would be great.

Jacob

Hmmm, was going to transfer mine to secondary on Thursday but might do it today then.
How much you need?

nigel_c

Scrap that last post. The yeast was a few months old and took much longer than expected to get going it's it's all good now. Very healthy when I just checked in on it.
Thanks anyway.

Jacob

Glad to hear that fermentation started!

An update from last nights meet. Barney has asked to join. He has the ingredients and will brew as soon as he gets some yeast.

Brewed:

1.  Jacob 25L Brewed
2.  Partridge20L Brewed OG 1.090
3.  Cahalbrua 20L Brewed
4.  Pat the Buttercup 20L Brewed
5.  Will_D 23L Brewed on 03/07 OG: 1.094
6.  BrianC 20L Brewed 05/07 OG 1.12 (WLP545)
7.  Nigel  28L ish Brewed 7/7 OG 1.090

These have the ingredients and have committed to brew:
8.  Mcgrath (18L)
9. Barney(25L)

So the above adds up to 199 litres. So we are getting there.

I know James will liase with Mr Extract
10.  Mr Extract via P9

Have heard nowt from:
11.  DamienM
12.  Hurleyci (50L)

If we have a lot over I suggest we scale down the additions (say just 18 from everyone) , keep some mixed for topups and tasting and we can then bottle the rest of our own beer for ourselves. That way we should have a reasonable triple to enter in next years competioin.

As there are a number of casks around the country I will suggest to the national comp organisers a class for all cask aged collective or individual brews!
