Electrim Boiler

I have a old Electrim Boiler that was lying around, so I thought I would use it as a HLT. It was happily heating the water but at around 50c it cut out and wouldn't start back up again. I thought the element was frigged as it was used quite allot as a boiler in days gone by so I left it and continued on with my brew day.

As i Thought the element was done. I went ahead and  bought a new element from the HBC and installed it.....guess what? Same thing, it reached around the 50c mark and cut out. If I left it to cool down and it would start up again but cut out at 50c. Anybody any idea what is going on here!

PS. I had already removed the Thermostat from the Electrim when I was using it as a boiler.

There must be a dodgy TCO in there somewhere.
Any chance you can take a photo of the electrics in it?

if that's all the electrics, then i'm guessing that this part is dodgy http://snap-action-thermostat.com/down/snap-action-thermostat.pdf
it should cut out at 110°C, and it's a bt of a coincidence that it's cutting out when it hits its minimum operating temperature.
You'll probably find a replacement for a few pence online, or you could bypass it

Thanks. That would explain the first fault. I can only assume the replacement element I bought is faulty also. Seems very strange that both would fail the same way.

LordEoin

I don't know what parts are the same and what parts were replaced.
there's nothing else in your pics that could be causing it.
But a quick google says electrim boilers seem to cut out a lot and bypassing the thermostat works for a lot of people.

Cheers. I'll prob dump the old thing anyway. Was only an interim measure. Need a HLT with a bigger capacity. Time to go shopping! Thanks for your help.
