I picked up one of each.
MO perfect
Wheat perfect
Munich perfect
Crystal - some small clumps and mold - bottom of bag was wet and has since dried.

Pot luck

Bagged grain

Pale malt spread on a sheet to check for damp etc.:

As you can see that stuff is fine, out of the 15 bags myself and my mate got just one had to be discarded, which is a fair return given the price of E120 for the lot.  The malt has varying expiry dates some for Sept 2014 and others for Feb/March 2015.

This is all very pot luck so a risk to people who are not local as there is a cost in shipping.

Aye very true.  I've finally got hold of what I had brought up and although it all looks fine at present, I'm going to go through each bag over the next couple of days.  I'll empty them out in a big tub to check for mold or grain beetles and then rebag them and sew them up again.  Although it seems to be mostly the Maris Otter blend bags that have caused problems so far the one I opened tonight was fine. Biscuity smell off it, and the grains I tasted were all firm.

Hi all, I have read on other forums about a bad batch of Maris Otter, it could be unrelated.  Looks like great stuff for an excellent price.

Ah right hadn't heard about that.  Having spoken to the farmer, he just didn't realise what he had and although some of the bags are bad it would be a real pity to let a third of a ton of grain be thrown out.  For the price it should be of interest to Cork/Waterford based members or those who travel that way.

Believe me that thought had crossed my mind!  Got a 2nd hand 70L pot there on ebay there for £40 so the grain set-up is gathering steam.  Now to track down a tap and fitting to be welded into it.

Not to go off topic but can you weld? If not you can use compression fittings and a weldless bulk head.

Ok what's the process to go about getting some of this ? Worse case the chickens and ducks will eat well  ;D, at that price its about the same as chicken feed anyway if it comes to that. Anyway i need to order crystal pronto for some upcoming brews so sooner i get to see this batch the better, i have the storage to keep it if anyone else wants to travel pm me i will be leaving from Dungarvan. ;D

I'm going to get a mate of mine to weld on a bulkhead as he's handy enough at it (or so I'm led to believe).   There's three of us combining forces on this project so between three lads we should probably manage one working set-up :P

Greg2013 make sure you ring the farmer first in case he's thrown out the remainder of the grain.
