Another Rye River "brand"

Opened the Lid pamphlet in the papers and first thing I see is "craft beer at its best" for 4.99 for a pack of 4 brewed in Kilcock, Co Kildare.

Assuming its them (and the 4 pack and location give it away) this is the 3rd new 'craft brand' of theirs I've seen in two weeks.

Its seems disingenuous to me to be dumping multiple 'craft' brands on the market. I know it should be down to how it tastes but i'd rather support the smaller breweries that are putting their effort behind a smaller set of quality beers

If its half decent and its 4 for €5 I'd drink it.

Is this the Colgan's brand you'se are chatting about?

irish_goat

Well at least they're not hiding the fact that they are "crafty" rather than "craft".

Jeez is the beer really that bad. What are  they not doing I wonder because they have a top notch piece of gear I am told :-\

I haven't tried their other brands but the McGargles Red was alright. That's the one brewed in the UK though!!

My problem is that in my local Tesco's they stock Solas, Colgan's and Mcgargles. That's space that Kinsale, Kinnegar, etc. could be using and I'd be more likely to buy

Lots of brands, lots of overlap...
Solas       McGargles        Crafty      Colgans
Red          Red                    Red
Stout                                 Stout
                IPA                                   IPA
                Lager                 Lager
                                                        Wheat

The thing about some of the smaller craft brewerys is that they cant produce enough to keep the big supermarkets fully stocked all the time and keep the pubs full as well. The likes of tesco will want the shelves full stocked all the time and don't care about any other commitments you have to kegs etc. The would rather not have it on a shelf than have it only half of the time. Rye river look to have a large enough production setup to do this.
