Hi Partridge, thanks for the reply. I suppose I would prefer to do course and exam. I could wait until the next round, if there is to be a next round of courses? Ideally I would like to get certified. What are the chances of courses and exams being put on again within the next 6 months?

Rgds,

Derek

Just a quick course update

I'll ping this around by email as well.

Class 1 : June 20th : Black Sheep : Rough duration 3.5 hours.

Rossa / Andrew / James

Introduction
Course Summary and objectives : Rossa / James

Beer Evaluation : 18B Pale Ale : Sierra Nevada -
Gordon Strongs eval handed out, this can of SNPA was seriously lacking in hops, very aged.

Sensory Testing : Hop Oils by Andrew

Homebrew evaluation : This homebrew had yeast stress and off flavours.

Beer Evaluation :  19C American Brown : Brookyln Brown
Gordon Strongs eval handed out, after for comparision, the sample bottles we tried were excellent.

Beer Evaluation : 21A American IPA :  Firestone Walker
Very nice sample but lacking the body and punch of an IPA. Kinda fell between stools, not an IPA not a Pale ale. but a very nice beer !

Beer Evaluation : 21A American IPA : Sam Adams IPA
Very poor example of an IPA, it had the ABV and body but seriously lacking in any hops.

Sensory Session : Andrew : Oxidation, wet cardboard.

Beer Evaluation : Homebrew : this was an oxidised homebrew, to sample the off-taste in the flesh.

Beer Evaluation : 21B RYA IPA : Beaverstown 8 Ball

Beer Evaluation : 21B Black IPA : Thornbridge Black IPA -

We didnt score the last two, as things were running way overtime.

Homework - if you can manage it

Modus Hoperandi - Ska Brewing Co.

Its available in the drinkstore.ie , here

So just to summarise, for the remaining classes

Class 1 : American Ales
Class 2 : english ales (some other styles TBA)
Class 3 : Beglians
Class 4 : German Styles (Or Irish Craft beers)
Class 5 : Stouts / Dark Beers
Class 6 : TBA

We will be fitting in a mock exam and our official BJCP exam, looks like its been authorized.

We might be moving class 4 to the RDS (thanks Andrew!) but I'll email around and keep people posted.

Im not available this weekend myself, so if someone can help rossa with sorting the tables, or if people can take responsibility of their own tables, that would be great.

Thanks

James

We will aim to run it on an annual basis.

It will probably be September 2016 for the next one.

Just a heads up to all our current students who are looking for the BJCP Online Practise Exam- It's a little hidden:

You go here: https://secure.coursewebs.com/bjcp/Default.aspx

Add BJCP Practice Exam Questions (BJCP_Practice_English) to your cart. It is the 5th item down. Ignore the "Call For Pricing".

Then click on Checkout at the top of the page.

In checkout, select I do not have an account with BJCP.

Fill in your details, and click on Submit

You will either then be taken to your My Courses page; or you will be emailed a link to the My Courses page (I can't remember which).

From the My Courses page, just hit the launch button next to the practice course.

This is a 20 question tester with a 6 minute time limit so don't launch until you are ready to go.

Saturday 10th October here @maltcracker Kildare we will be having a tasting session discussion group on BJCP tasting / styles brewing and so on.

Its a great opportunity to come down for extra support from proven and experienced Brewers and Judges and perhaps a skilled Somellier will be present to help out as well.

Kellie and Myself would like to invite 2015 students to come down and enjoy a day of tasting, discussion and learning.
