Hi guys, I'm new around here and not too sure if I'm posting this in the appropriate section but hopefully someone can help! Anyone got any advice on adding vanilla to a Left hand milk stout clone I'm planning. As in, Vanilla bean vs extract/essence, how much for 21ltr batch, add to boil, primary or secondary etc?

I added half of the bottle of additional vanilla extract from aldi ,  think it was madagascan or something like that,  straight to the keg.  It was very light in the taste but quite strong in terms of aroma from the stout

I took 3 vanilla pods, split them down the middle & added to a jar of captain morgans for about 10 days.  Threw the lot into the FV & it turned out lovely.  I made this for Christmas and could really taste & smell the vanilla back then.  Just finished a bottle now & it's definitely not as strong.  Have never tried the extract though.

Advice I got was to extract 4 vanilla pods ( split ) in about 200 mls vodka for two weeks and add at bottling time .. Worked well ..

Thanks Guys, It's well on the the way to fermented so I'm gonna go with the steeping 3 split vanilla pods in vodka I think. Checked gravity last night and it's tasting good.
