Rats

How much pressure can you put in a "Guinness" Keg before it explode?

Crazy dangerous Experiment time!!

LordEoin

it should be printed into the metal, no?

Garry

Rats, that avatar of yours looks like it's up to something??

Some good reading for you here.

The table on page 12 shows the different design pressures used in different countries.

Rats

tx for the info will have a look at it.

Curious to know why you want to know this. Sounds like a question I might ponder while imbibing at a fine public establishment :). Goes along with question like "why does your skin go wrinkly when you are in the bath" :D.

@Rats: anything to do with steam?  :P

Was thinking of using one as a portable air tank but will be looking for an old flogas cylinder.

Out of interest, what do you use to cask condition beer, as in, plastic or metal kegs and where is best to get these.  Gonna do a cask beer over the summer if they are not too expensive

Just checked a 50L Heino and a 30L bud keg:

Both are rated to 3 bar max (42 psi).

Not sure what a gas cylinder is rated to (Butane(Yellow) and Propane(Red) ar eprobably less than 3 bar but they not be stamped with a max pressuree.

If you want a bottle that can withstand a lot of pressure:

What about a fire extinguiser or even:  Drum Roll: Flashing lights: etc:

A mixed gas bottle!
Remember: The Nationals are just round the corner - time to get brewing

The keg is pressure tested to 90 psi (6.3 bar) which gives it a safe working pressure of
60 psi (4.1 bar). Routine hydraulic tests to rupture are carried out and no keg should fail
below 1000 psi (70 bar) (Mitcheson M et al. 2001)

First time packaging classes has proved useful  ;D
