Interested. How come you're selling it?

Garry

I bought a plate chiller because it has a smaller footprint  :-\

How long does it take wort to get to pitching temperature roughly?

Garry

If you are just transferring straight from the kettle to FV it's instant. As long as the ground water isn't too warm.

If you are recirculating back to the kettle it depends on a few variables;

Ground water temp
Is the kettle insulated
Flowrate of the cooling water
Flowrate of the wort

To give you an idea, my kettle is insulated. I can get 30L of wort down to ale pitching temp in around 15min if the ground water temp is around 15°C.

Why would you recirc back to the kettle if its chilled more or less straight away when going to the fermenter?

Garry

Some people recirculate if there are a lot of 0 min hops. Some recirculate to create a whirlpool and reduce the amount of cold break in the FV. A hopback would solve this.

I just go straight from kettle to FV most of the time.
