Guinness pint bottles

Has anyone bottled using Guinness pint bottles? Any problems?

I assume they're going to be fine, but before I get a mate to start collecting them for me (in a pub) I thought I'd run it past ye.

I used em before,  no probs

They're good decent thick bottles but the pub will be charged a deposit fee if they're not returned so just make sure your friend knows this.

I use them all the time, they are great. Very sturdy, labels drop off easily and the bigger volume means less bottling!

I'm lucky that I have easy access to them but pubs pay a deposit to the wholesaler.

As the Publican pays a deposit that means the Brewery owns them like they own their Kegs. As an organisation we do not condone or  discuss the hows and whys of using or  "obtaining" other peoples property.

You can buy them in an off licence though

Ah yeah, forgot offys still sell those. They're taking a hit on them. Downside is you have to buy Guinness to get your hands on the bottles.

Or McArdles (same bottle?).

Yep. Guinness, Smithwick's and McArdles pint bottles are all returnable, and carry a deposit of 23 cents. So they belong to the brewery.

Figured there was a catch like this as he said he'd have to pass it by his boss. So may not happen, we'll see.
