Hey,

I see NHC members get discounts on the Homebrewwest Webpage :) , what is the discount code we should enter?

I only just placed an order over the weekend with ye, but will use it in future.

Thanks

Cillian

Gotta be a full member Cillian. Only costs like a tenner for the year. Well worth it.

We will, but the problem is space . . . . and we ain't moving again . . . . ever ever ever.

Even though the new warehouse has twice the usable space of the old one, its already full. I'm beginning to think that no matter how much stuff you have, you can always somehow squeeze it into the available space you have!

That's fair enough, but I moreseo mean that if you're getting a pallet from Viking anyways, you could get it mixed and perhaps put a bag of each of the more exotic malts on it.

Also, no-one in Ireland seems to stock honey malt and quite a few american recipes use it. Could be an interesting niche for one of the shops.

Do you know if this is anything like the Gambrinus Honey Malt, which is the one that they seem to use in the States? I see it's produced in conjunction with the Colorado Malting Company.

No idea but that's the malt I'm after.

Ok, I'm convinced. I'll order up a pallet this weekend. Let me know which ones you want.

Some of you who paid the 100 euro deposit were charged for shipping so we've just reduced the balance payment amount to compensate for this:

Now, how to use this beastie! I could write pages and pages of instructions on how to step mash etc, but its really quite simple. There are essentially 3 things you can control:
- power setting (700w, 1800w, or 2500w),
- temperature, and
- timer.

I could rant on with step by step instructions for all combinations but here is what you should do in a nutshell:
- fill it with water (25 litres of whatever recipe says),
- set temp to initial mash temp,
- set power to 2500w,
- connect pump, open valve slowly and turn on pump,
- check for leaks while the water is still cool and tighten connections if necessary (we found that placing the pump on the bench instead of hanging it off the tap was a better way to go),
- play with the tap to adjust water flow (you want lots of flow to circulate, but not enough to cause the malt to overflow from the malt pipe).

Now the fun begins:
- while the water is still cool play with all three controls:
  - change the power,
  - change the temperature,
  - change the timer (try a couple of minutes to see what happens).

When you are completely confident, then and only them proceed to the mashing stage.

I think the beauty of the Bulldog Brewer is that its so simple to use and it gives you complete control over everything.

Yeah, arrived yesterday and without reading the instructions (yes, I'm one of them) it was figured out in a matter of minutes. Its really very simple. Few problems to look out for.....the screws to hold the handle on the lid are tiny and were loose. Can see them failing but an easy fix. The pump didn't work. I opened the switch and the wiring had broken. I rewired a bit more robustly and it all worked perfectly. The switch will fail on a good few, the wires are held together with a bit of solder. Its a simple fix though so be prepared for a few calls on that one.  All in all a great piece of kit at a fantastic price

Just after giving it a go there same problem no action from the pump, boiler seems to work fine although the tap is a bit loose, also a few spots of rust on the inside of the mash bucket
