naw . its the pump.  nearly every member of the user group has issue with it.  Pin is sticking in it.. HB has been giving out higher amp transformers for free. Was hoping we could get the same.

Just placed my order for the sparge plate. I added on a capper coz I felt guilty :) my pump has been fine so far. Might just be lucky

Damofto

My pump died a couple of weeks ago, it stopped pumping half way through the mash. I opened it up there was nothing inside. Luckily I have a cheap Chinese one that I can use instead.

auralabuse

I'm the same, a couple of Chinese 12v on standby

HomeBrewWest

OK, I'll try to get the new Pump Power Supplies in with our next Bulldog order.

Colorado American malt is back in stock, lots of it. So if you want to make authentic American style beers, why not try our American malts:

See here:

We are launching them in Ireland at better than wholesale prices to promote them, but these prices can't last (especially the 25 Kg sacks).

Also, we've started a hop sale to make way for 2016 crop:
http://www.homebrewwest.ie/hop-pellets-422-c.asp

As far as I can see, these are the best hop prices out there. Let me know if not and we'll match the best.

Forgot to say we have 18 Yeast Bay yeasts in stock (including lots of Vermont Ale), and most of the White Labs are still in stock too.

Combining these with the Colorado malts should yield some interesting beers.

Can I ask what the logic of bringing in American malt is when we can get excellent quality malt from Ireland? Purely from an environmental consideration this seems a waste of time. Was it a specific request? Is there demand for it?

HomeBrewWest

Doesn't actually come all the way from the USA; see here:
http://www.coloradomaltingcompany.com/we-offer-more....html

Its malted under license in Finland using the same secret Colorado malting process and the same barley strain.

Given that we already import trucks of malt from Germany etc, its not a big deal to import from Scandanavia too.

Colorado are a key player in US craft brewing (they supply Sierra Nevada among others) so I figure that we can now make authentic US style beers as this malt is supposed to be identical to the USA one (read the link above).

Dr Brown Ale

Just ordered the spare plate, nice one.

Have had a few issues getting  to a rolling boil, last Saturday it never got properly going even with the grain tube removed. This was indoors in the warm, not out in the freezing cold.

It messed up my efficiency as I didn't lose as much to the boil as I'd expected. Had it lash it into my old boiler for another hour.

Any advice?

Well we make lots of great pale ale, lager and distilling malt, but there's no caramel/biscuit/roast malts made here afaik.  The new wheat malt from Minch is probably the first Irish malted wheat in a generation.

Have you tried a water test with each of the wattages to make sure they are all working? Was there anything in the boiler when you were at the boil stage?

Dr Brown Ale

I've not done that yet, because I got a rolling boil the last time I though the issue was sorted. I hasn't been getting a rolling boil with the grain tube inserted (using it as a large hop spider), so took it out last time and got the rolling boil.

This time, no dice.

Approx 27 litres pre-boil, to lose 4, leaving 23 litres losing 2 to trub and a 21l batch.

Can you post video next time you boil?
