I'm almost up and running with my first keg setup but still need to find a tap for my corny keg. I've been looking on Adverts for a tap but all that seems to be there are pub style Heineken, Guinness, Carlsberg etc taps which I don't want, I'd like something more generic. I'm also working on a budget of about €40 (maybe it's not realistic)

Here are a few I've been thinking of buying a tap off Aliexpress and somehow building a DIY stand, though I have a few questions about each;

1) Faucet Quick Disconnect Assembly, MFL Tap Shank Adaptor, Chrome Plated Faucet, Liquid Thread QD (€ 26,66)
http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/Faucet-Quick-Disconnect-Assembly-MFL-Tap-Shank-Adaptor-Chrome-Plated-Faucet-Liquid-Thread-QD/1017341_2014062405.html
These ones hook straight to the quick disconnect, though I was reading that the length of beer line affects the foaming/pressure etc. which I wouldn't have control over here, correct? Has anyone had any experience with these?

2) Perlick Perl Draft Tap, Stainless Beer Tap (€ 28,98)
http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/Perlick-Perl-Draft-Tap-Stainleee-Beer-Tap-Kegging-Equipment-Homebrew-Supply/1017341_32242745735.html
Looks nice. I would need to build some kind of stand by the looks of it which I would like to do but have no idea how. Thoughts on this type of tap?

3) Forward Seal Tap w/ 80mm long shank (€ 34,08)
http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/Forward-Seal-Tap-w-80mm-long-shank-Beer-Tap-Kegging-Equipment-Homebrew-Supply/1017341_32276452446.html
Are these worth the extra few euro? What is the difference than numebr 2 above?

4) Flow Restrictor Draft Tap w/ Plastic Nozzle, Chrome Plated (€ 35,29)
http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/Beer-Faucet-European-Flow-Control-w-Plastic-Nozzle-Kegging-Equipmen-Chrome-Plated/1017341_1549591839.html
As above, what is the benefit of the additional cost?

Has anyone any experience building some kind of stand for these? Something rough like this looks good, I like the homemade look;

I don't have a fridge or kegerator so that's not what I need the long shank for or anything like that. I'm lost here and would appreciate any help choosing! My beer line is 3/8" if that makes any difference.

Thanks

Thanks though I heard the picnic taps aren't great quality and wouldn't work long term (will start leaking eventually). Would you recommend one? I haven't completely ruled it out. I also already own a quick disconnect out and beer line so only really need the tap itself if I was going to go the picnic tap route.

Like this I suppose;

€12.40 incl shipping vs €25-€35 for the Aliexpress ones.

Would still be interested in people's opinions on the taps I posted above.

If you are interested in a wooden beer tower, I have one, same as in the attached link, that I am not using. It was made by a joiner friend of mine, and is solid oak. I'd like to get €20 for it.

I've had my picnic tap for 2-3 years used without a fridge and have had no issue. They're easy to clean and cheap to replace (not that I've had to). I wouldn't bother with proper taps until you have real refrigeration going on and can afford to splash out on forward sealing taps

Although that tap above is a steal for 20 quid

@TAF - is that under counter fridge holding the 2 kegs attached to the tower?

Hi Graham. That's not my setup, it belongs to the guy who made the tower, but yes, 2 kegs in that fridge. If you flick about 4 pictures to the right, yo uh can see them jammed in.

Thanks for the offer, looks really nice, though I would rather do a DIY one myself. Big fan of the DIY  ;D

Cheers for the advice, I think I will go with a picnic tap for the time being so. Once I know what I'm at I'll look into the more permanent ones.

I am gathering up all the bits i need for a kegerator build and am looking at getting taps/faucets.
Can anyone offer any advice on whether the taps with the flow control on them are worth the extra cost or not?

Also has anyone ever ordered this sort of thing from aliexpress?
the likes of these:

By the time you get all the components together its running into quite a bit, so trying to kep the cost down.
Considering 2 or 3 taps , i have only 2 kegs at the minute, but would like the option of expanding.
I seemed to have missed the group buy on the taps , which would have been ideal.  :-\

Have a look on adverts, there are tonnes on there

Slightly more expensive but it's a forward sealing tap unlike the one linked.

Also the only aliexpress store I'll buy brewery stuff off myself. Everything has been top notch. No leaks,rust,broken parts etc.

I presume customs love finding these packages making their way towards our shores? Whats' sort of addition do they tend to put on e.g. a single FS tap?

armedcor

Couldn't tell you I've never been charged any.
