Meeting of the NCB’ers at the Old Boro 16th April

The days are getting longer but still the embracing warmth of the Old Boro greeted the North County Brewers with a friendly “Hug in the Snug”. We had much to talk about first, so this meeting actually ran to an agenda!

It was decided that Jacob and Will would represent us within the NHC.

There was a long discussion about the Bushmill’s cask project what to brew, where to store it how to manage the mechanics of nearly a quarter ton on beer!!

We also agreed that for future meets we would have a “Brew it to Style” to style meeting

The minutes are available here:

We had been enjoying the O’Hara’ Pale Ale during the talking now it was our turn to try our own brews.

So after much “hot air” it was time for the real business – Tasting

Will_D brought along his Hoepfner porter a dark German lager but with a porter twist in its tale – brewed from the Clone Beers book. On checking the book Will realised that Karslruhe (where it is brewed) is nowhere near the Baltic. Apologies to Jacob who was looking forward to a Baltic brew.

Renier brought a deliciously light pineapple beer

Nigel was also in a light frame of mind – a wonderfully light elderflower ale

James brought his big, full saison

Colm brought along a mystery ale for us to try to classify (BJCP) – he eventually told us it was supposed to be an Irish red!

Kieran ( McGrath) brought along an amazing strawberry pilsner – why amazing? He didn’t add any fruit!! but the strawberry flavour was palpable.

Jacob had been busy, his wheat beer fermented on WLP-300 was excellent. He also brought a single hopped (with Pilgrim) pale ale and finally his entry to the International Homebrew Project. All showed us again what a great brewery Jacob is.

BrianC brought a lovely full flavoured big extract stout. This needs keeping a while to develop to its true flavour potential

Cahal brought a lovely light highly crabbed Belgian farmhouse ale – excellent stuff

Colin Mac (ColMc) brought a full flavoured strong amber ale – another winner

All in all a great night thanks to all and see you all soon; Will
