Did my usual style food shop today, i.e. went out to get a sensible and healthy meal, and came back with Dorittos, chocolate, and beer  ^-^

Noticed Tesco have the Revisionist range on special @ 4 (500ml) for 9 euro, so picked up a few to try, as they have Californian Common in the range (one of my favs!). (Funny that they call it 'steam beer', as I thought Anchor had the copyright on that term). Looks like they have an interesting selection in the range - Saison, Dark IPA, Rye ale, Lager, Wheat beer, so looking forward to sampling a few more.

Yet to try these, but forever hopeful  :)

[Update: Finished off the Steam Beer and Red Beer last night, and was actually surprised - these aren't dumbed down versions taking advantage of the the widening 'craft beer' market. In fact the Dark IPA in this range was made by Wychwood of Hobgoblin fame.

The red beer was certainly very drinkable, an amber ale with light citrus notes and a biscuity malt flavour. None of the roast flavour of an Irish Red that I like, but nice and warming nonetheless.

As for the Californian Common - I had the opportunity to taste the Revisionist Steam beer side by side with Anchor's one, and they are very different beasts indeed. The Revisionist version has a huge malt profile up front, very rich and lots of biscuit and dark caramel, although somewhat lighter on the finish. Compared to Anchor's steam beer which is a little lighter in colour, and tends to emphasise the Northern Brewer hops over the malt, creating a lighter flavoured and more refreshing beer imo. But the Revisionist version was certainly passable, and nicely suited for drinking of a winters evening.

Overall, very pleased with my 'research' so far, and will certainly be trying more from this range when I inevitably mistake the off licence in Tesco for the fruit and veg aisle next week  ;) ]

I had the Dark IPA during the week, it's surprisingly not terrible.

Are they still brewed by Brewdog? They did the UK own brand stuff last year.
On tap: Flanders, Gose,
Fermenting: Oatmeal Brown, 200ish Fathoms,
Ageing: bretted 1890 export stout.
To brew:  2015 RIS, Kellerbier, Altbier.

Brewed by Marstons I think. I couldn't believe it when i saw these - tesco with their own brand saison. Mad..

I really like the Rye and the Saison. They are dirt cheap over here in the UK which makes them very attractive. Glad they'll be available when I move home.

These are currently my favorite beers.
My local Tesco only have the rye, dark IPA, wheat and pacific red but they're all fantastic.
Lovely beers at a great price (currently 3 for €8)
And nice sturdy bottles to boot :)

25% of beer in M&S including Anchor Steam and Fourpure. Sorry if that sounds like ad. :( :-[
