Oh Crap

Extract  or all grain?
I have a cream stout extract recipe that is just unreal...just sub the hops

It really is worth doing as an extract

4.50 lb Amber Dry Extract - 53.76 %

1.5 lb Wheat Dry Extract (60% Wheat) - 16.37 %

0.75 lb Caramel/Crystal Malt - 60L - 8.96 %

0.75 lb Chocolate Malt (350.0 SRM) - 8.96 %

0.50 lb Roasted Barley (300.0 SRM) - 5.97 %

0.50 lb Lactose 5.97 % (Boil 10 min)

0.75 oz German Magnum [13.40 %] (60 min) - 27.0 IBU

Beer
1 is good, 2 is better, 3 is enough & 4 isn't half enough

BrewBilly

Sorry should have said all grain, got malt malt as well

I've done both so always give the extract 1st

6.5 or 7 lb Pale Malt (2 Row)

1.5 lb White Wheat Malt

1.00 lb Caramel/Crystal Malt 60L

0.75 lb Chocolate Malt

0.50 lb Roasted Barley

0.50 lb Lactose (Boil 10 min)

0.75 oz German Magnum [13.40 %] (60 min) - 27.0 IBU

1.00 Whirlfloc Tablet (Boil 10 min)

1.00 tsp Yeast Nutrient (Boil 5 min)

Mash 60 min @ 152

Ferment 1 month @ 67 degrees F

I have this on nitro and the boys can't get enough of it

.15kg black

Hops
Cluster 60g 60mins
Fuggles 30g 15mins
EKG 30g 15mins
Fuggles 30g 2mins
EKG 30g 2mins

BrewBilly

Right mash is on 90 mins.

Had to tweek the recipe slightly because not enough chocolate malt.

4.5kg pale malt
400g Cystal malt
160g Black malt
150g Chocolate malt

Plugged this into brewmate, going to add 30g cluster hops and 30g fuggles at 90min boil.

SO4 Yeast

What yous boyos think

Looks tasty! Will be interested to hear how it turns out - a good wee entry for the nationals?  ;)

BrewBilly

Right Chaps

I am planning on entering the Porter I brewed late last year. Can anyone give me some guidance on the porter style I should enter this under?

I would normally check the BJCP style guidelines and see what it's closest to in the descriptions.

I would probably lean towards a robust porter. What was the OG/FG and IBU?

BrewBilly

Hi Chris

I have been reading the BJCP guidelines and going to enter under Robust Porter.

OG 1.052, FG 1.012
ABV 5.2%
SRM 28.7 (by calculation)
IBU 43.2

All seem to fit into the vital statistics asked for.

What's there to loose other than two bottles?

Cheers
