Ratoathbrewing

Evening All
Started my 2nd kit brew tonight - Milestone IPA, courtesy of the good folks at Mottly Brew. Followed everything to a tee instruction-wise so I'm hoping it turns out better than my first effort
Will gladly take any advice in relation to this kit if any of you have used it before
Cheers

LordEoin

Those muntons kits recommend fermenting at 17-20°C, so i'd keep it at 18.
Just make sure everything is sanitized.
Don't forget to aerate the wort well before adding the yeast.

If you have any specific questions just fire them out or check the instructions :)

Ratoathbrewing

If I move my FV today, as its fermenting, will I be disturbing it or will it be OK?

Just out of I Teresa what was wrong with the first brew?

Ratoathbrewing

It was v flat but I think I should've used more carbonation drops . I reckon that's what it was anyway. There wasn't too much of a kick from it either

auralabuse

Hmm,  that should have read interest not Teresa.  I'm just over in Dunshaughlin and can't brew IPA,  lager,  pilsner etc due to the high alkalinity of the water,  wondered if you suffered the same fate being so close

auralabuse

Might have also been the lack of heat,  you really need to get the bottles up to a decent temp again to get the yeast reactivated for bottle conditioning

Ratoathbrewing

Never thought about the hard water, actually. He 1st brew I actually bought a heap of 5L bottles from aldi, but as mentioned I wasn't overly happy with the result. I've just used the tap wate this time so I'll let you know how it goes (we do have a softener, however)
The temp has held steady this time around (18/19) and as advised by LordEoin I'll try to keep it at that. Has been bubbling since Friday afternoon
Last time round, when bottling, EU went straight into the hot press so we're kept quite warm. Again, open to any further suggestions....

varadamo

hi to you both - have you seen our Royal county brew day on 24th jan in trim ?  none of us are experts but im sure you would learn something if you care to drop by !  Were doing 2 BIAB all grain brews and a kit  in the Malthouse pub from around 12 noon

auralabuse

Hey mate,  yeah I got that email but unfortunately work gets in the way.  Really hoping to make a meet,  I have been unlucky with shift work so far

Ratoathbrewing

Started this last Thursday night and have maintained the temp at 18/19 since the start so I can't make any excuses about that this time
Bubbles have slowed right down but are still happening so I'm going to leave it another night
Jinxing myself here but I'm confident enough about this one...

Ratoathbrewing

Bubbles have stopped and I've taken my 1st reading of 1.010. Had a sneaky taste from the sample and it's decent enough so far, definitely more of a hit than the first one I made
All things going well I'll be bottling by Saturday

LordEoin

grand job. it sounds like everything's going well :)
