Old kits - yay our nay?

So I duh out my brewing equipment and discovered a couple of kits from when I last thought about restarting brewing.

Both are past their best before dates by a decent amount. I'm tempted to give them a go anyway as the cans are in prefect condition. Only thing is they were stored in the attic (and therefore subject to temperature fluctuations during the summer). I assume the yeast is unlikely to be any good at this stage either?

So, waste of time or worth a shot?

How old?
Get fresh yeast and hop the arse out of them.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained as they say - I've ordered some yeast and will give them a shot. At worst they'll end up in the sink.

What kits are they and how old?

One is a Muntons Gold Docklands Porter and the other is a Milestone IPA.

I think (the stickers were almost impossible to make out) that they're both > 1yr past their best before.

I got some fresh yeast and they're both bubbling away upstairs at the moment. I couldn't detect anything off with them when I opened the tins so I'll give them a week and see what they're like at that stage.

they'll probably be a bit darker and less hoppy but fine with new yeast so long as the cans were not damaged
