I would be interested in recepies for the nicest wine anyone has made. Red or white does not matter.

If you can give a newbie instructions as well. Keen to try anything. I have made an apple and orange from scratch and have just put the findings in so party on down come Monday when I am off work.

I will let all know how it tastes.

By a street mile my favourite has been Strawberry wine. Recipe from the JBB Berry book- I'll dig it out if you dont have it. It might be a bit sweet for some - I like sweet wine though, but you can always cut back on the sugar

Also his mead recipe is damn good and so so easy to make. The dandelion wine's very nice too.

I have some sloe wine I made nearly a year ago. It was still very harsh a few months back but should be damn good when it's done

Right now I'm drinking some crabapple wine my father-in-law made. Delicious!

Thanks for the reply Kevin, I have the book and thanks for the offer. I too like wine on the sweet side. I have made apple and orange and apple and blue berry which I hope to degas on Monday and try then. Fingers crossed it ok or I have wasted a few weeks.

I have tried a few kits but want to gain the confidence to tackle most wines and hopefully get something that tastes well.

I've heard it said that you shouldn't put in as much sugar as he suggests. I think a few of my wines were a bit too sweet for some of my friends. I might try cutting back a bit whenever I do my next concoction, see how it turns out.

Blackberry wine with about half the amount of elderberries is also delicious.

Compared to brewing beer, wine making is pretty straightforward and almost fool proof. I've only had one batch that got stuck amd that was cos the flat I was living in was like a sauna in summer and the poor yeasties got too hot.

It's nice to be able to go in the garden in May, pick a load of dandelions, brew them up and drink it with your Christmas turkey.

Just remember to follow the recipes and keep racking your wine and it'll be grand

Tomorrow well tell a tale on the apple and orange wine and th apple and blue berry wine. I have added the findings to both and intend to rack it tomorrow.

The apple and blue berry has a great colour to it. I will take a photo tomorrow and post it so the world can see. The other one looks like cider. Maybe both will be going down the tubes depending on how they taste.

Hawthorn berry wine for me - a very unusual flavour.. I used white grape juice for body and flavour from the hawthorn berries - it comes out a lovely tawny colour.

Going to jump in here and ask a question on this too. I have made wine in the past mostly from shop bought grape and apple juice etc,it turned out dry but quite nice, however for the family they like white wine on the fairly sweet side and i would like to get a batch down soon for supping at end of year, suggestions would be appreciated please.Wine kits are out as they are way too expensive and i would rather do from scratch myself. ;D

Only two things,it must look like a normal white table wine from shop, and it must be fairly sweet. ;D

I'd go with the Pinot grigio kit here: http://www.homebrewwest.ie/australian-blend-pinot-grigio-1330-p.asp

Its a best seller for a reason and 30 bottles for under 40 euro aint too bad..

Its a very drinkable wine

I think I will give that a go. I made apple and blueberry wine, not for the faint hearted. Infant it was minging. It tasted terrible so down the drain with it I am afraid.
