DME vs LME

Can someone tell me, in layman's terms, the differences between using Dry Malt Extract and Liquid Malt Extract.

Only took up brewing recently and I want to start using malt.

Basically, 0.8 kg DME = 1 kg LME for all purposes. However, LME tends to produce a beer lighter in colour than DME; the LME ages and darkens faster in the can than DME in the packet. But LME works out cheaper, so it depends on what style of beer you want to make.

It's difficult to use say 600g from a 1kg tin  of lme too. It's messier too

LME dissolves easier too as it's already liquid. DME can clump.
It'll all get eaten up in the end, but clumped DME could throw your OG reading off a tiny bit.

Thanks lads. Helpful stuff. Think il stick to the liquid then. Seems easier to use

I like to have both at hand, if i miss my og it's easier to add extra dme instead of opening another 1.5kg lme. dme is also good for making starters
