Need Help With Co2 Regulator and Tank Connection Leak Issue

Hi Folks

I have a few questions and I'm hoping someone can help me. I recently bought a CO2 tank from AJ Edge in Bray (fantastic crowd, cannot recommend them enough). However now I've gone to attach my CO2 tank to my reg I've noticed that the valve on the CO2 is a standard wheel type CO2 valve but the regulator has a square shape on it's end (reg type found here: https://www.thehomebrewcompany.ie/co2-dual-gauge-regulator-includes-john-guest-fitting-p-2281.html).

Now it still screws together perfectly but there is still a leak out the back when I turn the gas on. Will an O-ring seal this leak? I'm after buying an o-ring in commons and trying it but it blew out (it wasn't a great O-ring tho tbh).

If it is just a case of needing a stronger O-ring, what size do I need? If not, what is the name of the new connection I need?

Sorry if this post is long winded, I've attached a photo to show what I mean.
Thank you in advance for the help.
Shaun :)

From memory I think the regulator should have a washer in there to seal it. I could be wrong but maybe someone will confirm?

Leann ull

usually a red fibre o ring inside the nut and forms a tight seal against the threaded pipe on the tank

Ah thanks guys. I got it from my beer and wine but it never came with any washer or o-ring. I'll have to give them a riung.

That or I'll just go grab one from Chadwicks. Appreciate the help, didn't want to screw with it without checking as I've seen some nasty incidents involving DIY on scuba tanks!

Did you get sorted with this? If so what did you do to fix it? I think I'm having the same problem, bought a regulator off mybeerandwine and have a leak. I'm guessing it's the same issue, a missing washer.

Hi Emot
Yes I did get it fixed, sadly a rather embarrassing mistake. The reg did come with a washer, it's the plastic thing attached in the picture.......
It was attached via a zipline, it looks useless but it's actually the washer
