This is why they say never store chemicals in food containers, I remember many cases of kîds drinking all sorts of stuff from reused lemonade bottles

Poor fu*ker. Horrible way to go.
Storing caustic in a wine bottle in the fridge is so unbelievably stupid.

Sorcerers Apprentice

One person probably put the detergent in the bottle, and left it someplace "safe" and either he forgot and/or another person tidied up by unknowingly putting it in the fridge, either way a horror show and lesson to us all

Reading that is shocking. As SA points out, it's so easy to imagine how this could happen. Must admit to storing line cleaner in a tonic water bottle with 'cleaner' written on it. Will be addressing that tonight.

I did something similar once when working in a restaurant, coworker was cleaning the coffee machine and I drank about half a cup before realising what it was. In my defence I was really hungover and loaded it with sugar. Didn't die.

It's easily done. My Dad stored some weed killer in a lemonade bottle when I was young and I drank it.
I remember the ambulance was awesome, but I don't remember the stomach pumping etc...

Weed killer and Turpentine were favourites in Lemonade bottles in the past.
On a funnier note a heavy drinker who I knew in the past came home after a heavy session. He went to bed and woke up thirsty in the  middle of the night. He went down to the kitchen an was delighted to see  a half full lemonade bottle at the kitchen sink. He downed the contents or at least most of them in one go before he realised something was wrong. While he had been out in the pub, his kids were watching Blue Peter and in the art action they were making something wonderful from a bottle of washing up liquid. So their mum kindly swapped the bottles an left the "lemonade " bottle at the sink.
The following morning when the father was walking into work, he came around a corner and the sun shone in his eyes causing him to sneeze. In the process he exploded in his trousers, and has to squelch the rest of the route into work, where he stepped straight into a shower and got stripped while taking a shower.

A friend and I were having a few beers and painting some Warhammer and i noticed my paint brush cleaning water glass was a nice shade of light orange. I got myself a ginger beer, placed it near the paint water and said nothing. He assumed that i got him one too and took a great big gulp of the (non toxic) paint water. The "something is wrong" look on his face was priceless ;D

I had a lucky escape myself, I had gone away for a weekend to Spain, I did a quick shop in the local supermarket, I bought cleaning stuff including clothes conditioner for the washing machine. It was a lovely peach colour and my mate put it in the fridge thinking it was peach juice!!
