To follow up on what BavarianGal said, I thought the old/traditional tent was the best part of it (Augustiner in a stone jug - quality!) , but if you are with a group of lads on the lash you might prefer the other parts better. Anyway just get in a tent and stick to it once it hits evening time because the queues will be crazy!  Enjoy the food and the beers, we'll more than likely be there having a few!
Any more questions just shout!

I've never been, but it sounds great. You're making me want to go!

BavarianGal

John you should go when it suits! The flights from Shannon to Memmingen with Ryan Air are pretty cheap, that's why Keg and I are considering going again! As my sister says "After the Wiesn is before the (next) Wiesn" ;)

I love Munich, can't wait to get back. Weisses Bräuhaus (Schneider Weisse) is a great spot if you're looking for somewhere in town to drink and there's also an outdoor market nearby in the centre of town that sells beer and loads of things like olives, breads, cheeses etc that you can gorge on whilst drinking in the sun.

Cheers Keg.  Gonna have a lot of this planing done so it will be "hit the ground running" when we land.
Thanks for the offer of more advice....I will more than likely take you up on that.

WOW....this advice may aswell be straight out of "OKTOBERFEST INSIDER GUIDE BOOK" if there was such a book.

I just found the traditional Wiesn is called "Oide Wiesn" look here: http://www.oktoberfest.info/en/events/old-wiesn-oide-wiesn/
Now this looks EXCELLENT.  I love the whole "TRADITIONAL / NOSTALGIC vibe coming from this option.  Will defo be here for a spell.

If you get to go outside of Munich you'll find all over Bavaria different local breweries which are technically all "craft beer breweries" or "micro breweries".
Budget & Time constraints limit our overall experience.

Another thing which is pretty entertaining especially in the evening is the "Teufelsrad" (Devil's wheel), I think the commenting is just in German, but still funny to watch when people are drunk! http://www.oktoberfest.info/en/events/old-wiesn-oide-wiesn/
Looks the business alright

And if you had enough of the Oktoberfest and you just want relax, you might want to consider taking a spin to Erding (by train) to the Thermal bath and sauna landscape (I think it is the biggest Sauna landscape in Europe). In the sauna is a big pool including a in-the-water-pool-bar and a "Beer sauna" A day ticket costs around 35 € http://www.therme-erding.de/
See point above re:Budget & Time

I'll stop here now! Otherwise I keep spamming you more with tourist tips! :D But if you have any more questions feel free to ask!!
No no no, this is GOLD.  I may have a question or 2.....hundred between now and the time, and I will be posting my advice if required on my return.

We will be arriving in Munich on the Sun 27th and returning on the 30th.... my plan is to have a rough itinery for the couple of days....

Thanks again

johnrm

I feel a group buy coming on! ;-)
