Can tapered corks work?

Help! First time wine brewer here.  I ordered tapered corks from my supplier as they were out of stock of most of their straight corks and I was impatient to start bottling (wine making being a lesson in patience and all...) Any hoo, I'm fifteen bottles in, the tapered corks don't go all the way in (they're the kind you push in with your hand) and I really don't want to ruin my first batch. How long will wine last bottled with tapered corks and will the rest of the wine in the fermenter last a day or so (it's syphonless with an airlock) while I order and wait for straight corks and a corker? Thanks!

Who what where when, post links to what you have?

Not ideal
Tapered corks are not good for long term storage as you don't have the full length of the cork sealing the contents from the outside world, which is fine if you plan or drinking them all in 6 months
Consider using some tape or wire over the top once you have pushed them in as far as they will go

Could be a bit of fun with Halloween parties just around the corner with a parrot and a crutch pulling them out with your teeth and spitting on the floor crying "Avast me hearties!"

Would doing a wax seal on the bottles improve shelf life further?

indeed or if you sliced the top off one of those heat shrink caps
