Just looking at this:

http://www.nationalhomebrewclub.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1363960949/new#new

I'm happy to buy it and store it for a while.

Are the North County gents up to brewing a prize winning beer?

And BTW: Maybe NOT an imperial stout?? Every one else will do this!! We need to think about this?

We would need 7 or 8 5 gallon batches to fill it.

Once full we have a logistic problem due to the sheer weight of 200+ Kgs of booze and oak.

Remember: The Nationals are just round the corner - time to get brewing

Barrel aged barleywine MMMMmmmm

A big Belgian could  work with a barrel as well. Still think the tried and tested big stout is the way to go though.

Nice link.

Jacob

With the barrel choice is simple for me.
It have to be barleywine or ris :P

Will_D

I am leaning towards a Big Barley wine.

Why:

1. Nigel knows and has brewed a great one before
2. If we start now it will age to perfection for next years comp
3. A lot of the others will do the Imp Stout ( soo yesterday daahhling!!)
We will have a secret meeting at the next OB meet as thisd thread is way too public!

If they are 40 or so plus delivery then I will buy it for the group. If the group brew falls through I may just shred it and bag it as whiskey oak chips!! Or even BBQ smoker stuff

QuoteI had an imperial IPA from Dr Jacob's barrel... I wasn't convinced when I heard about it but I had a couple of bottles recently and it was fab.

I think you mean MY barrel! Thanks, it has turned out quite a nice beer.

It didn't do well in the first competition I entered it in! ;)

Surely an indictment of the competition.  ;D

I think an early meet next month to get this project under way. Numbers interested etc.
take vote on style, game plan , locations and all fun stuff like that and paying for barrel and ingredients.
Really think this could be a nice project.

What a bunch of ultra competitive bitches ;D.
Don't be surprised if the barrel specifically being delivered to the NCB club has whiskey with a urine undertone ::)

Shanna

Ciderhead your starting a trend here with the repeated urine references, dare I say we might have to start calling you "Pisshead"!!!! ;-%

Any more thoughts about this project? Styles, numbers interested storage locations? I definitively think we need to have a good old chat about this at the next meet. Get your thinking hats on NCB.

I'd love to add my 20L's worth to this project, though might not be able to make the "secret" meeting.  PM me if you need extra beer and I'll go along with whatever style ye decide.  I do solemnly swear not to divulge any info to those pesky Liffey and Capital brewers!

Good man yourself. This is the attitude that will keep the NCB'ers on top of their tree!!

If you can't make the next meet then we'll PM you with our minutes of meeting.

We could even start up a "Compare the Markets" versus "Compare the Meerkats" type thing: Simpless!!
