HBW have kindly offered to give out 25 KG bags of some of their new malts to clubs so that we can try them and give some feedback on what they're like.

I have secured a bag of Best malz pale ale malt for Kerry area brewers to try out,  details here http://www.homebrewwest.ie/best-pale-ale-malt-50-to-70-ebc-25-kg-5604-p.asp

The malt is being donated on the grounds that;

  *  This trial is for feedback on the two malts that HBW are sponsoring.
  *  Each bag should be split up amongst the club in ~5kg lots, to allow a few members to try it out.
  * 2 simple feedback reviews are required per bag of malt that you receive, e.g. how efficient the mash was? OG vs other malts, what did it taste like?, would you use it again?, etc
  * Full members only. See original thread here http://www.nationalhomebrewclub.ie/forum/index.php/topic,10664.15.html

I'm based in Tralee but would be travelling through Killarney at different stages. There's 5x5kg available. I know there's Kerry members but you gotta be fully paid up members.

Right time for an update.

I've used this malt twice now. The first was a milk stout so hard to get a taste from the pale alone. I will say I used all Bestmaltz pale and specialty and just hit slightly under my numbers.

I've just completed the mash portion of my berliner Weisse. Pre-boil volume was bang on. My pre-boil gravity was also bang on point 1.029 for a mash efficency of 82%. Pre-boil/sour taste is very nice. A great malt all round I feel!
