Rookie Corny Kegging Question!

Keg

Hi All,

I'm am about to keg a beer for the first time (Particular Peter Stout Mashkit) and have a question on the Corny Keg, I've read the Kegging 101 but am still unclear.

When I was cleaning and sanitising the keg, I noticed after giving it a good shake that it wasn't totally watertight.  I have read in some places that the pressure from the gas would make a tight seal, however, it seems to me that if there is space for the water to escape, there is certainly space for the gas to escape.  The O rings all seem to fit fine.

Any advice if this is normal, or should I hold off transferring the stout to the keg?
Thanks
Keith

Sometimes rotating the lid the other way helps, also when pushing over the locking lever try to centralise the lid in the hole. Sometimes swapping lids around may make them better seals but sometimes not.

Why does the water or beer help seal? Water/beer is much "thicker" than air so it allows the pressure to build up and so seal.

You can also try food grade greas or vaseline and grease up the o-ring.

Try it first on the empty keg with some water to get the optimum orientation and then you know when the beer goes in it will seal

Seems normal to me. When I'm cleaning a keg, a little water always escapes as I'm sloshing it around. Most likely all will be well when you put the keg under pressure. You can put the keg under pressure before you rack the beer, to check you have a good seal.

Thanks Will & Bubbles for your advice.  I'm planning to get gas & regulator tomorrow so I'll follow both of your suggestions.
Cheers!
