Ardbir help?

Oh Crap

hopefully I'm clear on what I'm trying to do

Ok so...I bought one of these before I fully understood if it's suitable for my system..
I've 2 choices....
1: sell it (I have it in the for sale section just in case)
2: get help with it.
Number 2 is where ye geniuses come in 😄

I have a three vessel rig, and my plan is to use hlt as a herms pot. 2 pumps (1 solar & 1 chugger)
I want to automatically control temp of water in hlt (recirculating through solar pump to keep it even) while allowing for step mashes
I have 2 temp sensors (on route). Was planning on using 1 on the water outlet tap before returning to hlt ( right or wrong?)
The second to monitor the mash temp leaving mashtun before herms coil (I think I'm wrong here)
Then boil as per usual before whirlpooling and chilling thought plate chiller into fermenter..

So for all ye electronic gods here 😆 Can I use the ardbir to automate most of this? If so please help...🤕 (Wiring is not a problem, figuring it out seems to be)
Can it Control :
Element allowing for increases during step mashing
Pump 1
Pump 2

1 is good, 2 is better, 3 is enough & 4 isn't half enough

So, I have a pretty similar setup. I'm using the ardbir on the herms out, which tells me the temperature of the mash. I also have a separate probe on the mash out that I monitor but don't use for control, just for verification. I can swap between them as I have wired the probes with telephone socket connectors,  rj11.

I run my pump manually right now but it can be tied into the ardbir if needed. I go manual as it usually takes a little coaxing to get it going at the start of the mash.

You don't need to worry about the hlt temp, just it's effect on the mash temp. Also I use a separate pump to recirculate the water in the hlt, so that it doesn't stratisfy and heat only near the element.
Fermenting: IPA, Lambic, Mead
Conditioning: Lambic, Cider, RIS, Ole Ale, Saison
On Tap: IPA, Helles, Best Bitter

Can it Control :
Element allowing for increases during step mashing yes
Pump 1 yes
Pump 2 whats are you using this for? Is it one for HERMS & one for transfer between the 3 vessels?

Separate issue on whether the HLT is the best method to use to heat HERMS (others on here eminently better to answer on this), high thermal mass/volume of HLT make it more difficult to finely correct temps used to heat HERMS tube. A smaller 10L/15L kettle may be better option.

Edit: beaten again by Molc

It will allow full multi-level step mashing & then if/when used as boil kettle controller will also beep/remind you on your hop additions and then later as a way to monitor wort temp as you are cooling it.

Similar to the STC, it's really just a big (but very clever) switch.

Pump 1 recirculate water in hlt
Pump 2 for herms coil then for transdering to boils kettle etc
Cheers for the help I'll be asking more soon 😋

Thanks for the in-depth reply
You reckon I should build it so 😁 plenty of questions to come lol

Absolutely, you know you want to ;)

Oh Crap

I chickened out 😱
Will D had expressed an interest In the ardbir and I chickened out of the build and dealt with him... Don't shoot me tho pleeeeeeeeeeese
