PS - i have a bunch of wood I am thinking of turning into a brewing cabinet to have in Tog, maybe some of you guys could give a hand with it?

Shane Phelan

Just a quick update on this, TOG are moving to the new location at "22 Blackpitts" near the headline bar. Equipment and contents will be moved from the current location to the new location over the next 3 weeks with the official change over to the new location on November 1st. Nothing firm planned in terms of internal layout yet.

Sound slike we need a "reunion/welcome to new home bash".

In the early days I really enjoyed TOG on a Sunday.

PS: They had better bring the Yellow Ducks!

TOG update. (Silicon Republic write-up)

TOG moved into the new blackpitts location late last year and the last 6 weeks in particular have been quite busy putting up walls and painting in the space. There have been nearly 20 new paying members added since the last update and that seems to be increasing as people see the new space and its potential.

This evening at the AGM TOG will make its transition from the existing club "TOG" to the limited company "TOG Hackerspace Designated Activity Company" or TOG DAC for short. Transitioning to a company makes things easier/safer in a lot of different ways from paying bills, getting insured, getting paid for events from other companies, limiting liability of members,  etc...

There is a rough guideline on how the place is going to come together over the next 12 months or so:

Black Wall Lines (Preexisting):
WC - Toilets [Complete]

LB - Loading Bay [Access only]

K Kitchen [Almost complete]
Almost completely fitted at this stage

Red Wall Lines (First Phase):
1 - Common Room [Complete]
Couches, tables & chairs, projector wall, tuck shop.

2 - Class Room One [Complete]
Table & chairs, projector wall, white/black boards.

3 - Fabrication Room [Almost complete]
Laser cutter, 3D printer, large printers, high work tables & chairs,
electronics lab.

Green Wall Lines (Second Phase):
4 - Workshop
Workshop equipment tools, work benches, main workshop storage.  Two
full bays might be excessive, so some form of subdivision for storage
should be considered.

5 - Class Room Two/Three
Table & chairs, projector wall, white/black boards.  Optional moveable
wall for larger/multiple classes.

Cyan Wall Lines (Third Phase):
6 - Storage
Members box storage, lost and found sub room.

7 - Miscellaneous Rooms
This area will likely be split into smaller rooms; quite/study room, wet
room (photo/brewing), clean/craft work area, etc.

***********************************************************

As it stands it looks like section 7 is going to be the most suitable room for brewing. It is beside the toilets to there will be easier access to ventilation, water and drainage. This room will be classed as a "wet room" and will house all activities that involve water or chemicals. The ceilings are very high so the idea would be to install a lot of shelving and get everything off the ground. Beneath the shelves can be things like freezers, sinks, etc.

As it stands there are now 5 brewers who are full TOG members. TOG is having its 7th birthday party tonight (Saturday) at 7.30pm and anyone who wants to drop in is more than welcome.  :)

What's involved in becoming a member? how much etc.
Can the NHC sponsor a brewday or 2 throughout the year with nominal cash contribution or ingredients?
Make a proposal to the NHC officers.
I'm happy to sponsor ingredients for one as I bought a shit load of gear to brew over Christmas and never did.

That offer would apply to any party countrywide interested in promotion or education in Homebrew.

Will_D

Congrats to all involved. That looks like a great facility.
Only short walk to the Headline as well!

Cheers Will, I pretty much drop into the headline every time I'm in TOG now.  :)

The best way to start is to go to some of the group nights to get a feel for the place.

This is the blurb that new signups get:

The way it works is that you are a probationary member for a minimum of 3 months. The clock starts when you make your first payment. After 3 months you might be proposed for full member..... then you get your own key. This is usually a formality. The reason I say "might" however, is that if you don't become known to the community, then a key might not be granted simply because nobody knows you.

Currently, the standard rate is 45 Euro p/m (approx 10.40 per week). If you cannot afford this, you can pay less. The minimum amount is 20 Euro p/m (approx 4.60 per week). If you are going to pay less than 45 p/m, we ask that you pay what you can honestly afford, rather than what you would like to pay. If it was a simple choice, we would all choose the minimum rate and we couldn't even pay our rent. So if you can afford 41 Euro p/m or 22 or 37, then pay that amount. Currently TOG needs an average subscription of about 36 Euro p/m to break even.

We ask you to think about the value of membership and not just the cost. The standard rate of 45 euro p/m is equivalent to just 10.40 per week. This gives you 7x24 access to the space with all its tools and equipment, as well as a great community of makers and do'ers. Consider this against the cost of one return bus journey to town at maybe 6 euro.....or one take away pizza that can cost 10 euro. You can change your amount up or down any time as your circumstances change. Everything goes to keeping a roof over our head. You're not paying to me, or a committee or some business. As a member, you own the space, so you're spending on you!

Interesting well offer of free ingredients still stands, proximity of the Headline swung it for me?

Shane Phelan

Cheers for the offer for ingredients. Once all the infrastructure is in place to do a brew I will take you up on that!

At the moment we are concentrating on getting a deep catering sink that would fit a fermenter

Excited about this, as soon as the place is ready for a brew day I will be there to film it.

Shane Phelan

Cheers Brian, the workshop will be built first and then the brewery so there will be loads of material for you to record while the mash is on.  ;)

Hi chaps,

Shane had mentioned to me that we were trying to put together an inventory of our shared materials. So, here's what I'm contributing (essentially everything I have):

-- 2 stackable Ikea stainless steel shelves (each shelf can hold 75kg I believe). Can support 8 30l fermentors
-- tap mounted pressurised bottle washer
-- bottle washing tree (50+ bottle capacity)
-- Temperature probe and regulator
-- aeration pump and stainless steel stone
-- 2x 52 litre plastic storage barrels with airtight lids. (Great for storing grain, may be able to use for initial stages of fermentation)
-- beer engine for cask ale
-- 25/30l keg
-- 2x 50l stainless steel kegs (tops removed). Were being converted to kettle and lauter tun/mash tun.
-- 2x 35l plastic buckets (fermentation/bottling bucket)
-- 1 35l plastic bucket converted to kettle.
-- 1 30-50l silk bag for brew/mash-in-bag
-- 5x 35l plastic fermentors with taps
-- 5x 5l stainless steel portable kegs + CO2 tap

and of course the random typical stuff: hydrometers, trial meters, irish moss, etc.

Dr Jacoby

I can donate a 50L keggle with a welded tap coupling, tap and a 3kw element. The terminals for the element need to be properly covered but apart from that it's good to go.
Every little helps

irish_goat

I have 50L kegs I could donate, would need to figure out how to get them to Dublin just.
