NHC 2016 cat 31 Silver (44 points) - Rye Saison

The silver medal winning recipe in the Alternate Fermentables category is for a rye saison. This scored 44 which I was really happy with, I think the winning beer scored an impressive 46. I think the reason this recipe works well is that the dry, spicy flavor of the rye malt really compliments the saison style. The Wyeast 3711 yeast is an absolute animal as well and it adds a lot to this beer. If you haven't tried this yeast in your saison I really recommend you give it a go.

Note, the oat husks are to loosen the mash because the rye can get pretty sticky, and the caramunich is simply to add a little colour.

Now that's a section I would have loved judging. Well done.
Fermenting: IPA, Lambic, Mead
Conditioning: Lambic, Cider, RIS, Ole Ale, Saison
On Tap: IPA, Helles, Best Bitter
