Cost benefits of BIAB

I biab mashed in my brew pot, put the bag in a cheap uncustomised picnic box with camping mats and batch sparged back into the brew pot for years. Maybe not the most convenient way to do all grain but it's a cheap starting point and functionally the same as the fancier alternatives.

As well as googling the excellent deathbrewer tutorial shanna' Google search will lead you to Denny conn's batch sparge page is essential viewing for budget conscious brewer's looking to go all-grain.

It's also a relatively small step from biab to decoction mashing if you ever want to give it a go.

It was a for sale thread not a discussion thread :P
If you want to highlight how much cheaper you can brew for that definitely wasn't the place to do it  :(
Your right of course just a little miffed at being pulled up indirectly :) It was not my intention to put the buyer(s) off or try & damage the sellers prospects. Storm in a tcup.

Maybe not your intention, but it could put doubts in peoples minds. Its a good piece of kit and the first I've ever seen come up second hand. If it was my add I would have been pi#@ed off with your post.
As is your right but it would not change the fact that the person I was addressing had already passed on the item as he said he could not afford it. Thread spoiling suggests that it was a deliberate post by me to scupper a sale & nothing could be further from the truth. The price of the items for sale will be beyond most average person's budget anyway irrespective of my comment. Expressing an opinion about more economical options to a fellow brewer who thought that only with a 1k piece of equipment can he switch to all grain is in my opinion is my right. My mistake was doing it in the thread rather either contacting him directly or starting a new thread.

Is there any circumstances under which a person can express an opinion on a sale. Is one required to start a separate thread even if something is taking advantage of less experienced people in someway or when is there any form of comment that can considered unacceptable.

I don't think so, a few threads seller threads on here last year that I had to force myself not to comment on, Caveat Emptor and steer clear I think  :-\

I'd say for sale threads are one of those things people just stay out of unless your making an offer or getting clarifications. The intent here was spot on and sound. To be fair, it was taken at face value also, the thread split was just being prudent and proactive.

No problem with the thread split it was the accusation of thread spoiling that rankled. Granted I accept it rankled as much for the seller also. Lesson learned will keep my oar out in future.

Hi Shanna,

Thread spoiling is a varied and wide term.

The original poster considered the thread being disrupted and was not happy to have that discussion on that thread.
A complaint was acted upon.

It was my intention to allow that conversation to continue, but not in that thread, I could have deleted the lot, but that would not have been in the spirit of what you were attempting to convey.

No discussions on threads that do not pertain to interest or offers of interest is the best policy.

The idea also of policing threads due to stuff being too expensive is not our business really, if you see something that is a fraud or a scam or a blatent rip-off then report it by all means, we can then have a heads together in the mod area to take appropriate action, otherwise if someone wants to pay what's being asked then it's simple free-market economics.

I paid 300 euros for a boiler that someone with welding skills and the right tools could make a lot cheaper...but I don't have those skills so I buy stuff....
