Dodgy STC1000's

I have used many stc1000's but the last batch I got are a bit dodgy in that out of the 4 I got 2 have just blown,as in they were working and now they are not. Each one was only being used for one task, the first was controlling a heater unit to set a temperature of 20C in my hot box for bottle conditioning and the other was to control a fridge and hold a temp of 7C. They just gave up. They are marked for 220v but I wonder. >:(

have you got the links you bought them from
Consider those inkbird jobbies

They're marked for 220v but that doesn't mean they'll run everything 220v. The relays inside are 10 amp.
The fridge should be fine, but the hot box might be a strain depending on what's producing the heat.

A 40 watt device shouldn't be killing STCs at all...
Maybe the delay is set too low? I'm not even sure if the delay works on the heating side too or jus tth ecooling side. I can check when I get home.

there are different STC1000s, but it's potluck which you get.

Personally, I can recommend the Inkbird ones, but check calibration - mine were both out by a whole degree C.

The second of the two STC's that I had has now blown as well. Used it to replace the blown one on my fridge unit and after 48 hours it blew. It was running the fridge when I switched off the lights in my shed and I heard it trip.

fecking hell did you wire that shed :( :D

You have a separate box with a lighting and plug circuit?

I assume the lights are on the same circuit as your plug since its a shed and its probably just taken from a socket in the house?

The problem is that when you're switching the lights it is created a small votlage spike and since im guessing you dont have your STC plugged into a surge protected outlet that is blowing the the unit.

Do you have an older flourescent light fitting in the shed? If so that is probably the culprit.
You might want to replace it with a newer type.

It's strange that I had 4 other STC's running with no problems but the latest one I bought are the ones that are brewing.  I have a lecce nephew that is going to check it out for me next week. The light is a new fluorescent lighting unit and yes it is all running from the same link. Feed is coming in from the main fuse board on a 32 amp fuse.

It might be that the new batch of STCs you got are more perceptible  to voltage flicker than the older ones.
Yea sure if your nephew has a look he'll be able to tell you.
