If you use the spear of a keg and pop your handles onto it no danger of it falling in

Until a moments inattention and you knock it in. Would like to be able to hang it off the edge of the kettle and also to have it go deeper in to bottom of the kettle to maximize the usable space exposed to boiling wort. Molc would be interested to hear what the circulation of the wort through the mesh is and as to how fine the screen is. Would hope/expect that whether using pellet or leaf hops it all be contained within the spider.

I came up with a cunning idea last night of hanging it off the side directly over my small 2.4kw element, like the ones you have in a peco boiler. It causes the wort to roll directly above it, which should thoroughly agitate the hops for the length of the boil. It's the perfect height in that position too, stopping just mm's away from the element.

I think 300mm filtering can hold all pellet hop break but can clog with leaf. At least that's the theory online...

Anyway, hoping to rebrew an ipa next month where the hops were very muted. My working theory was my previous hop bag clumped the pellets together, so that will give it a great test. I'll even be able to do a taste of the two beers side by side :)
Fermenting: IPA, Lambic, Mead
Conditioning: Lambic, Cider, RIS, Ole Ale, Saison
On Tap: IPA, Helles, Best Bitter

So i'm going to be whirlpooling in my new kettle once it's built so I could test it for that.

Cool anyone else want to have a go as otherwise it just goes to dcalnan after testing

Anyone get ths pump yet, mine died today and was wondering if they are anygood?

darren996

Picked up one of these pumps.  Good quality pump, ran it for an hour. Couldnt see much difference between this and the topsflo ts5 which is double the price

Update on this pump, they clog very easily. Don't attempt to use one without a filter.

I ordered a hop spider from them and it just randomly turned up! I contacted them first wondering if they had even sent it
