Chill wort before or after transfer to fermenter?

Up until now, after my boil I've been transferring the hot wort through the tap in my peco boiler to my fermentation bucket and then chilling it to temperature using my immersion chiller.

I realise that I could instead chill the wort in the boiler and then transfer it when it reaches temperature. The boiler has a built in digital thermometer which would be handy to use. But would transferring the cold wort through the tap into the fermenter afterwards increase the chance of infection?

You are going to get a lot of break material in your fv. Ideally cool in your boiler, transfer to the fv and then pitch. Clean and sterilise the tap prior to the boil then  a blast of starsan into the tap after the boil and you are good to go with transferring to the fv.
I would also be concerned with transferring boiling liquid, better to cool first.

Near the end of the boil, pour off a few liters of wort through the tap and pour back into the boiler. This will sanitise your tap

Your also looking for oxygen in your wort so cool it in your boil kettle and then transfer it cooled into your fermenter maybe allowing it to flow through a colander to break up the flow and pick up more oxygen. :)

When transferring cooled wort from kettle to fermenter, splashing is a good thing

Thanks for the advice, I'll try chilling in the boiler then. We have one of those filter things on our kitchen tap - you think you've filled your glass with water but after a few seconds the foam dies down and you realise you have to go back to the tap to fill the other half!
