Kegerator wiring for STC

I've collected a small larder fridge and almost have all the parts I need to start kegging. One issue I've been mulling over is temperature control for the fridge. At the moment, the thermostat is fitted in a plastic moulding inside the fridge which is preventing 2 kegs from fitting, so it has to go. I've attached a photo of how the wires are placed, but I want to make sure I know what I'm doing before I go messing with it.

The orange wire goes from the thermostat inside the fridge, out through a hole in the back and into a plastic casing stuck to the compressor. The wall plug and wire meet inside the plastic casing. What I'm wondering, is if I can wire up the STC to the orange wire or is there something more going on between the orange and white wires that would prevent this from working? I can't get the plastic casing open so I can't see how they are connected to each other.

Does anyone have any neat examples or ideas for how I could fit the STC in the fridge, or am I better off wiring it up independently with a socket and plugging the fridge into it (only problem here is that I must move the thermostat)?

Thanks in advance!

Looks like a starting capacitor on the right. You'll need to keep that. BrewPi.com have a good fridge-hacking guide that may be useful to you.

In the third pic? That's the housing for the bulb, I took it out before taking the pic. I'll have a look at the BrewPi build, cheers.

I had a simler problem .   I moved my stat by unscrewing  and relocating the lot.   I trimmed off all un nessary plastic as well.   Still cant fit 2  kegs in by the way.

It is possible, I've done similar to my own kegerator.

First things first, I'M NOT AN ELECTRICIAN! Follow my steps at your own risk!

I stripped away the housing for the light and thermostat control so all I was left with was a 4-core cable, in your case the orange cable.

Using the wiring picture from the link below to as a guide. (Also read through Lordeoin's fantastic guide on the unit http://www.nationalhomebrewclub.ie/forum/index.php/topic,7491.0.html )

Split off the live (brown) with a wire connector and connect it to ports 1 and 7 on the back of the stc.
The neutral (blue) connects directly to port 2.
The white wire in the orange cable connects directly to port 8 of the stc.
Connect the temperature probe to ports 3 and 4.

Finally the stc 1000 itself  doesn't require earthing so I taped the earth up out of the way in a plastic project box I used to tidy everything up. HOWEVER if for some reason you decide to use a metal project box (not recommend) connect the earth to it.

As stated I'm not an electrician, these are the steps I took on my fridge and they worked for me. If in any doubt contact a qualified electrician.

@Kevco Good stuff, exactly the info I was after. You did pretty much what I'm looking to do. I've wired an STC for my ferm chamber so that much will be ok at least. I was concerned that there would be more to it than just wiring it into the orange wire. In that case, I'll be able to pull the orange wire out of the fridge altogether and have the STC at the back and out of the way, with the probe going back in that hole.

@Motorbikeman I've measured the width across and I'm lucky that 2 kegs will fit in if I get rid of the housing. It's just a pity my co2 doesn't fit in there too.
