Another Conical, I like the look of it though, it has a few nice features. Dishwasher safe, has a bottling attachment and the trub trap will take a mason jar. $199 in the States, will probably be a while before its available here though.

I sell that resin, no thankyou for this application, its legally sensitive so be careful what you say.

They should have done glass or stainless as I like the "open features"

Clearly no one has told them about skunking though.

I like the idea of putting a fermenter into the dishwasher and the wide mouth at the bottom looks handy for trub and yeast removal too. In saying, if Mr Plastic,CH doesn't approve it's a no from me as well.

But doesn't it let a big oxygen fart up through the fermenter when you connect the mason jar :(

If you've had kids already no problem  :P (Sorry, for some of you If you've had kids that you know about already no problem)
I could spend hours boring you with the detail but for this product and others btw, I feel like its how smoking was perceived in the 60's, or if you told me processed meats were high carcinogen risks 10 years ago, you would have been laughed at.
There is a massive learning curve coming down the track as the full analysis of the research isn't completed yet.
I would also point out that these are much smaller potential issues than smoking obviously but like the guy that tried to convince me recently that vaping did no harm to his body we need more information and more research which is at least 20-30 years away :-\

Probably wouldn't be an issue if you are removing the trub jar in the first few hours and then connecting your yeast collecting jar straight away. Any oxygen added at that stage would likely be used by the yeast.

Could you flush it full of C02 first?

nigel_c

Much the same as the fast ferment. I have one and every time I replace the collection bulb I flush it the co2. Simples.
I like the way you can use any jar. Really handy and easier to store then the FF bulbs which you still need to transfer to another jar/tube to store.

Reading this I am wondering about the humble plastic buckets I have been using for fermenting etc. Thinking about it now that the switch to stainless can't come quickly enough.

CH, did they not just do a but u-turn on bisphenol,  remember reading something the other day about the FDA have been testing further and couldn't come up with evidence and the EU following suit?

Leann ull

Nope not that I'm aware of, massive lobbying being done by producers though

Dunno what i was reading, not recommend in baby bottles etc still.  as nice as that looks i think glass or stainless is still better (think of the taste of the local chinese when the food goes in to hot and you can taste it in your noodles is enough to put me off lol)

Damofto

This is an eye opener for me, never even dawned on me that there could be health risks with the plastic when it was being sold as a fermenter. I don't understand why they would risk the whole project but not using something that is guaranteed safe. Agree that it would be a great job in stainless.

I think we should all slow down and read things carefully:

My highlights are in blue

"FDA's regulations authorize FDA to amend its food additive regulations to reflect when certain uses of an additive have been abandoned.

In 2012 and 2013, FDA granted two petitions requesting that FDA amend its food additive regulations to no longer provide for the use of certain BPA-based materials in baby bottles, sippy cups, and infant formula packaging because these uses have been abandoned.

An amendment of the food additive regulations based on abandonment is not based on safety, but is based on the fact that the regulatory authorization is no longer necessary for the specific use of the food additive because that use has been permanently and completely abandoned."

My understanding of the above is that the FDA no longer needs to considers this additive in these products because the "uses have been abandoned"

Isn't this like saying adding poison to food is no longer an issue because they who used to do it now say they won't add the cyanide to the soup
