Ordered Monday and delivered yesterday from HBC,speedy service there. ;D Couple of things, going back to bottling so i ordered the FV with tap etc in the pic,is it ok to ferment in this or will it leak all over ? It comes with the seal in the pic which i assume goes on the outside but would i be better to try get a second one for the inside if i am going to ferment in it also ? ;D

Secondly the St Peter's kit yeast is quite a small packet,i reckon around 5gr which tbh i don't feel is enough to ferment a batch. Now i have not done one of these kits before so i don't know do i belt ahead and just use the kit yeast or hold off brewing the kit until i order a different yeast ,and if so what yeast would match best with this kit? TIA. ;D

Mudder

Never had a leak with just one seal on the outside should be ok.

It can leak a wee bit at the start so I've done what you've said and used a second rubber washer on the inside too and it's watertight.

Thanks guys that answers the question what side the seal goes on anyway.I don't need to use the bottling bucket for this kit but i have another two kits on the way from HBC and depending on what way things go i may press it into use.have old fvs but i am trying to rotate them out of active duty. ;D

St Peter's Cream Stout bottled today, did something a little different with some of the bottles.Have to say the bottling wand that came with the bottling bucket from HBC fits great on end of auto syphon hose and is a joy to use with it's spring loaded tip. ;D

OG : 1050.

FG : 1016.

ABV : 4.5%abv.

28 x500ml table sugar

3x500ml vanilla sugar

2x1500ml vanilla sugar

1x300ml table sugar

The vanilla sugar was added on a bottle by bottle basis(at a rate of 1/2tsp per 500ml) and filled directly from the fv,that left me withjust over 14lt in FV,i then added 60gr table sugar dissolved in some boiling water to bottling bucket and syphoned remaining beer onto that.

Vanilla sugar below is on offer atm in local lidl. ;D

Does sugar come in liquid form down your way?
What are vanilla sugar ingredients?

No i have never seen sugar in liquid form around here apart from candi sugar from one of the HBS.All it says on the ingredients for this one is sugar+vanilla flavouring,it is not an overpowering vanilla flavour though so i decided to do a few testers as an experiment. ;D

Me too but kinda sorry now in one way it is bottled because today i picked up "gingerbread" and "vanilla" syrup coffee flavouring from local Dealz, ingredients are just invert sugar syrup an flavouring,i would have like to try these on a stout. However i am going to do another stout kit soon and i may try some bottles with these two new syrups. ;D

I hope it turns out well. I put vanilla essence in this kit during the year but completely overdid it... Wasn't good!

DEMPSEY

Try to use sugar free flavoring as the sugar in them will ferment out. You have just reminded me of a sugar free hazelnut syrup that I was given last year and was stuck in the back of the press :)
