Exporting BeerSmith2 Recipes to Grainfather Connect Android App

OK so I've just received my new Grainfather with the new Bluetooth Connect Unit. Have set it up with the Grainfather Connect Bluetooth Android App and it works very well with the Grainfather. However, I've tried exported two BeerXML files from BeerSmith2, copied them over to my Samsung S7 and then tried opening them via the 'File Manager' App but each time I do I just get a grey screen with the GrainFather logo, they are basically not loading into the GF Connect App. Anyone else had this issue with the Android app?

I don't think you should be opening them with file manager you should be using the GrainFather connect app to open them

You have to use the file manager, I had the exact same problem last night with my app. Hopefully an update will sort it out.

Yeah on the Android version of the App under 'Imported Recipes' is says the following:

You don't have any imported recipes.

To import recipes:
1. Open a BeerXML file(in File Manager)
2. Open with GF Connect

Unfortunately that process doesn't work on my Samsung S7  :(

Crap I was hoping it was just mine. I stupidly tried to import an extract recipe and was hoping it just doesn't play with non all grain. I'm just finishing up my first brew with it now so I'll have a play with the app tonight.

I'll get on to Grainfather and mention it as it looks like a bug on Android so. Am doing my first brew on the Grainfather tomorrow so I'll just plug the recipe details into the 'Quick Profile' settings in the app which should tie me over for a few brews and I'll just have BeerSmith2 open beside me on the laptop.

Do let me know if you manage a workaround.

There is one way. If you download Root Explorer file manager. If you click on the xml file and choose "open with" you should be able to choose grainfather connect. I've just tested it there.

My phone is rooted but I don't think it should matter.

Hopefully this helps some of you.

Figured out my problem. You can't have spaces in the file names...dumb 😕

If it helps, on my note 4, i selected the file on file explorer app, then "move to" and selected the Grainfather connect and saved in a folder called beer xmls. It now works fine.

Same. That combined with no spaces in the file names fixed everything. Works like a charm now. Can't wait to try it properly.

Yeap this fixed it for me too along with choosing an alternative 'File Manager' app. I had to change my 'Screen Overlay' setting too which helped.

Just posted on the Grainfather thread ... the Android app was updates today. It now supports easier importing of BeerXML files.

Should solve all the problems
